Hey guys i pulled this head off my old motor to get my thick steel head gasket off. The motor was pulled from car because it had crazy blow-by. My new motor was running high comp and the head gasket went pop and i drove it home 5 kms and it was running very very hot so head is probs warped. I was going to chuck this head and steel gasket on my new motor. But once i pulled the head off my old motor i noticed this in cylinder 5. some indents and scores. I had melted a spark plug previously in cylinder 5 so im guessing it was caused by that. Do you think its ok to use this head?

Hard to tell from the photos but could it have ingested something, something's people bust the ceramic on the plug and it can drop in

By the look of things the heat & ping/detonation has caused the damage. Not to sure but I thought after some hard treatment like that the alloy will weaken/soften. Right??

well i did melt a spark plug and it was missing the tip.... Ive seen this type of damage on dirt bike heads without any running issues. You guys think its okay?

also best look in the camshaft tunnel (bearing journals) for cracks before you spend money on this one. It's looks like a reface is on the cards as one of the photo's show where the gasket blew out and the surface was torched.

yeah as bachin24u said since it has been hot id check the cam tunnel as these are notorious for cracking and warping, they normally go along the exhaust side of the tunnel and from the centre bungs. but if that all looks good definatly a re skim of surface, and that damage in the chamber wont worry it, just die grind the high spots and should be all good

the head (in pics) is from my old motor. It popped the head gasket 2 years ago and has been running the steel gasket up untill last month when the motor produced blow-by. i will inspect the cam tunnel

Any scores or protrusions on the combustion chamber face will effect the way the air enters the cylinder, which will decrease performance ever so slightly If you junk the head, lemme know, im in newy and could always use another screwed head for porting practice
