(I know I know, ebay turbo...) It says: "This design has precisely placed slots machined into the compressor housing to limit the effects of surge". So I'd want to stay away from this sort of thing right? As in no holes to make it dose, or do holes not matter? Oh, and my apologies if this has already been covered. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

This is what you need to make it dose. http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=111492

If the holes are to help prevent compressor surge, then it probably wouldn't be much good, but then again if the dose pipe covers the holes will it matter 'n' such? I might ask the people who make them to leave the holes out just in case.

Come on.. picking turbo design on dose'ing ability. Have you ever noticed the best sounding cars are the ones that go the fastest?

The holes will help reduce compressor surge. The dose pipe acts like a didgeridoo. Which gives that dose sound. Some people reckon it can harm the turbo & others don't. In my opinion, never had bearing issues with a dose pipe. Well I don't actually have a dose pipe, but the pipe I'm running is 3 inch's in diameter with a slight bend towards the bonnet. The pipe is about 20 cm's long. So when you shorten the pipe that runs between your turbo & your air filter or pod filter. That's what makes dose sound. If you don't have a AFM I'd recommend running a pod filter. Even running a pod filter will produce a dose sound. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I would think people that have dose pipes would have a shorter turbo life span seeing as they all seem to be on and off the throttle hundreds of times more than a normally driven turbo car is.

I guess then it would be forced through more of the compressor wheel and thus more wutututu. *nodsnods* Does anyone know if ball bearing turbos use ABEC bearings? If so then I doubt it will be too hard to fix it if they blow up. I know some turbos don't take well to dose and others are alright for ages. Oh yea, and this car is AAAALLL about the sound.. The only reason I'm getting a ball bearing turbo is if I can get a semi-decent one cheap, to help the car breathe better at low rpm because I'm putting in the biggest cam possible (again for noise), and for making loud turbo noises. Performance isn't really on the list, just making it look and sound like it is. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

It's not the dose pipe that "supposedly" causes damage to your turbo, it's the fact that the air is rushing back through the blades, only way to stop this is with a BOV. Wouldn't matter if you had a stock intake to the turbo or a dose pipe. Maybe if the dose pipe had mesh over it versus a stock filter yeah sure thats why your turbo would be stuffed but it's not to do with the pipe itself. I'm guessing you'd have to find some sort of balance between the volume of the dosage, blown bearings and cost to fix said bearings. If it's 6 months between bearings, it's inconvenient but do-able but you then have to find a good turbo first. I think the stock turbo on the VL is tough but I don't have that bit yet. >.> So I start from scratch. ---------- Post added 16-12-11 at 00:12 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by IMCRZY [View Post] DOSE = [PICTURE OF BAD STUFF ] How long did it take to do that? minutes, k's? I just said that DOSING doesn't kill the turbo..... VLTs dose from FACTORY they just don't have a dose pipe on the end. It APPARENTLY kills the turbo because you whack a cooler on and suddenly you've got so much more air rushing back than factory which takes its toll on the blades. Nothings really been proven yet anyway. I think it's probably best you stick to non turbo though by the sounds of things...

I got all of that, but I want a loud dose so I'm guessing there's gonna be a lot of forces on the turbo (no intercooler but the turbos going in the back). Do the blades get damaged from bad bearings or just from the surge itself? I don't want to F a BB turbo wheel 1 year or 10 years down the track. I'd rather sell/not buy than risk it. If I had a stock or regular turbo it would be a different story but I don't want to buy 2 turbos, at least not yet. I have most of the stuff down, I know how to blue print an engine and rebuild a trans but this is Seaton and I'm poor white trash so there isn't a turbo near here unless it's stolen. I've never pulled a turbo apart let alone a ball bearing one so other than oil and water requirements and the controller stuffs I have no idea how the inside of a turbo works (other than the obvious of course). Is there anything that is fairly important to a turbo missing in that pic????? It is a well known fact that comp surge is a big killer of turbos & is best to be avoided ---------- Post added 16-12-11 at 03:44 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by Blaze_Fox [View Post] I got all of that, but I want a loud dose so I'm guessing there's gonna be a lot of forces on the turbo (no intercooler but the turbos going in the back). It's hard to see 'cause of the stain but if I see it right there's no nut yeah? Well does this happen to many turbos that dose or just a 1 off event? Some turbos have to be able to do it and not screw up but if they cost $1200+ I will just leave it. And yeh, if things come to plan, remote turbo with remote water and oil. So it doesn't count as a cold air intake/dose pipe/crap intercooler AND turbo at least for an hour or so till it all warms up. It's not going to be the best but the best is not what I want.

im pretty confused what you want man. are you really deciding on what turbo to get because of what kinda dose it will make?
