Hey guys, not sure if this has been covered before so sorry if I'm flogging a dead horse.
I got pulled over for a breatho the other day and the Highway patrolman got out his verniers and measured the width of my wheels. He then proceeded to open my glovebox and inspect the compliance plate.
He informed me that 17" rims were perfectly legal, however as the compliance plate specified 6JJ, the wheels can be no more than 7" wide (1" more than factory spec) and mine exceeded 8".
I didn't get a fine or anything.. I'm just curios how all you guys get away with 17s, 18s, 19s, 20s etc which are all wider than 7"??
*Edit:This should probably be in Vic discussion*
dunno about you guys in VIC but here in NSW as long as the rolling diameter isnt more than one inch over and as long as the wheels stay within the guards we are fine.

See section 8
"The width of any replacement wheel must not be:
-More than 25mm greater than the widest wheel specified by the manufacturer for that model or vehicle series..."
Are you sure they're 8 inches wide? If he measured from edge to edge with the verniers on a 7 inch rim it will measure 8 inches. The rim width is measured with the tyre off the wheel and it's bead to bead, not overall width.
eg: My convo pro's were 8.5" wide but if you measured from edge to edge they were 9.5" wide... same goes for your standard 6 inch wide wheels, they measure 7 from edge to edge.
Would they have 8j written on the wall?
Anyway I'm not fussed, I didn't get fined. They are certainly over 7" though and my original question was how does everyone else get away with it? Or do the cops just not hassle anyone but me haha
it was my understanding that that rule had been dropped from either law or enforcement. maybe this hick town cop hasn't heard the news yet? the tmu guys down here don't seem to enforce it anymore and they know their shiz
