Hey guys, I am about to change the valve springs on my rb30et but i am not removing the head from the block. Does anyone in adelaide have a special tool for removing the valve springs and installing them without removing the head? I know it has been done before just through other guys doing it on here. It is obviously not the simplest task but also shouldnt be too difficult. Can someone give me some pointers or some helpful information i should know that you found through the task that would stop me falling in the same trap? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you feed a heap of nylon rope or similar stuff through the spark plug hole to fill the cylinder up before you start fiddling with the valve springs. If you take the retainer off, and the valve falls into the cylinder, then you'll be taking the head off whether you like it or not.

You can buy fittings that screw into the sparkplug hole. Then you jam air pressure into the cylinder and it keeps the valves up. Do it on LS motors heaps.

I got a spark plug drilled out and hose pressed onto it, then a nitto air compresser fitting on the other end, worked perfect. Note you have to get the hose pressed on, cant screw it in with a hose clamp only.

done mine easy, renove all your rocker gear, as like said above get the cylinder that you are doing on tdc put compressed air into the cylinder, im lucky i have a genuine tool to do it! but you can just get over head valve spring compressors there pretty fiddly tho, ps make sure you put rags into all your oil gallery holes anywhere a collet can fall into Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Air in cylinder. Rag in oil gallereis. Socket on retainer and sharp tap with a hammer. Did it to my 5L a month or so back.
