what i really, really liked about my vl was that it worked. whenever i wanted, i could go outside and she'd never fail to start up. sure it had some rattles and the crappy holden plastic was always snapping but it was reliable, and it make the tyres piss when it came on boost. great fun.
anyway, i thought it would be a great idea to get a car that handled and i could take it to the track. so i bought a jzx81 (originally gx81) with a 2jzgte, t04z, manual, big (compared to vl brakes) 4pot brakes, etc etc etc. its only running 13psi and supposedly has 400hp. it feels just like the vl, maybe a touch more so i'd say realistically it has about 330hp. it will be great once i fit a 'larger' spring to the wastegate so i can wind the boost up.
so, i get the car and of course i wanna see what she can do so i went to my mates property in banjup where you can drop skids in his backyard and not bother anyone. only to find out the "twin plate" was actually a single plate, and 3rd gear skids tend to melt the poxy xtreme clutch plate to the pressure plate.
click on this pic below to watch skids!
anyway long story short, the cars ****ed and its 3 grand for a new carbon twin plate from yank land. im a povo apprentice so she's not goin anywhere anytime soon. but on the bright side, i've now got time to take the gay as aids body kit off and get it looking semi respectable. will be investing in different wheels soon as well. all i've really done is chuck a profec b in, and i've got a cool oldschool recaro to go in as my head touches the roof. i really just wanted a car that was already built, not a project. once i'm qualified i'll be building a bull**** xd falcon. oh well.
here it is before i took the kit off. you can see how **** it looked. its not really that clean, but i dont mind because its a dirty jap car. when it runs, it runs well. i cant wait to wind the boost up and take her down to the strip, and eventually barbagallo.
bit of a pointless essay really but yeah. ill bring her out on a cruise and have some runs with you boys.

Ahh I remember seeing you in this the day you test drove it. What was the guys name that you bought it off?

Call Jim berry,
He's making me a single plate which will deal with those sort of power levels. He comes very recommended, really knows his shizzle. Can use a Carbon single, and wont cost you 3k, more like half that

sounds mental, those motors r good for 600hp with stock internals so iv heard??

yeah ive been really iffy about forking out that much for a clutch. Its pretty outrageous. Ill call npc and berry on monday. Realistically it'll go 400-450rwhp at 22 odd psi, so i'd be stoked if i could get away with a single plate.

Also look into a dcs clutch (direct clutch services) I've got one of there twin plates with a billet flywheel behind the 30

I always wondered why I never saw the previous owner give this car sh*t
Looks much better without the kit.
Once you sort the clutch out, you'll like it more than your VL - handling etc much better and not as bunky feeling (so long as you don't go for 'hellaflush' setup like I have, mine is fk'n terrible).

05-12-11, 21:20 GMT+10#12 cheers lads. aside from the fact that the rims are really light, i dont like anything else about em. they poke out the guards mexican ways and they look too big now the kit is gone.
jim berry is closing shop til mid january, but npc said they can build me something for $950 delivered. there's also a hpf feramic clutch that the yanks use for around a grand + post which i've been thinking about, it supposedly has a really high resistance to heat, which would be nice so i dont have to worry about melting **** again. unsure at this point what to do.

10-12-11, 12:37 GMT+10#14 anywho, bit of progress;
figured while i've got the box out i may as well strengthen it so i ordered some gear from marlin crawler in the us. got a billet shift fork, thrust washer & billet bearing plate. should eliminate the r154's weak points. dropped the box in on friday to get the goods installed.
should've really taken them out of the packet before i took a photo...
other than that; i'm ashamed to say it but i think i've embraced the rice. i bought a set of rays duralumin wheelnuts and took off the centrecaps so everyone can see what a ****head i am.
hate to say it but they're making me kind of like the gtr rims. wouldnt mind painting them gunmetal but it'd **** their resale value. ultimately i'd like to roll on ssr ms1's. sp1's wouldnt be bad either.

18-12-11, 18:33 GMT+10#17 i just wish those people who sold their vls and bought other cars would leave...
... because then they wouldnt beat me if we raced lol.
i have seen this car driven in semi-anger at a cruise, went alright even if it didnt have the quoted hp. its a good buy, with a solid driveline. focus on the good bits martyn, im sure you look sexy as **** behind the wheel.

21-12-11, 19:45 GMT+10#18 dunno if she'd beat your rig jack, that thing is so stout once its on boost. Can't wait to belt the absolute crap out of it at the strip.
picked up the built box on friday, so now she's all shiney and flash and supposedly good for 700hp. all the internals are in excellent nick too, and no metal shavings in the fluid either so i'm happy about that.
Haven't had any bites on the gtr wheels so it looks like they're staying on for the time being.
Uhhm otherwise no real good news. I probably shouldn't keep updating this. i'm sure no one cares seeing as its not a vl haha.

Also looks way better without the kit.
Keen to see how this goes once you got it up and running..
