External wastegate position when using the "log"

I currently have a TO4E and external wastegate on an e-bay cheapie SS high mount manifold. It was on the car when I bought it. It is cracked (surprise ) and I have now bought a standard turbo manifold (log) low mount. I intend to get this heat coated as well. My question is this: Should I keep my e-bay turbo and wastegate which is at least 5 years old and modify the log to suit the wastegate or buy another e-bay turbo of similar capacity but with an internal wastegate? I am not after crazy power, just 250 rwkw that can be used all day every day. If I use the turbo and wastegate I have now; has anyone mounted this off the turbine? I have seen it done on a high mount and I have seen the log modified to accept the wastegate but have not seen or heard of the low mount done with the wastegate off the turbine. The easy way would be to mount it off the log poking up into the engine bay but for stealth reasons as well as heat I would prefer to have it all tucked nicely under the standard exhaust shielding. I will a a pic of my turbo set up as it is currently. Thank you for your advice/opinions. regards Leon. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Mate, i just bought a T3-T3 flange adaptor off e-bay that accepts a 38mm two bolt wastegate. Cost me all of 170 bucks, including a couple of gaskets. Might be something to look into....

yes get it welded to the middle of the t3 flange if you know what i mean so where all the collectors meet. im getting this done and alot of the skyline guys get it done also as long as it is heated before welding and cooled down very very slowly yu should be fine and it wont crack.[COLOR="Silver"] http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/for...rb20-manifold/ (http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/topic/139908-wastegate-on-standard-rb20-manifold/) might be rb20 but same s**t

I will get it heat coated too now. Thanks for the advice, I would not have come up with that solution myself. Cheers.

Just went to 4 different welders about getting an external flange welded on to the manifold but no one wants to do it because its cast iron.

here's what i had... hope this helps... also why are you reffering to the manifold as a 'LOG'?

I think you'll find that using those T3 wastegate adapters on a standard low mount turbo manifold will mount your turbo too low and either: A: Hit the engine mount OR B: Result in an unreliable oil drain without modding the sump and creating your own.

I have the adaptor on the way, I will give it a shot. I had heard the standard manifold referred to as the log as opposed to the 6boost style which I had heard referred to as bunch o bananas style. It looks a bit like a log I suppose, maybe there is a more technical name for it? Stokowagn, you may be right but the only way to find out is to give it a shot. The adaptor is quite compact and should only put the turbo down a little bit lower. For the price of it it is worth trying. I am being stubborn I guess but I really want the turbo side to look relatively stock and use the factory heat shields and manifold.

Just measured 60mm gap between manifold and turbo, there is no way a turbo will fit with the t3 to t3 adapter. the front housing hits the engine mount

you must cut the engine mount so the front housing clears

Damn, this is not looking good........... I may have just wasted my money on the adaptor as my TO4 housing is bigger than standard!!

yes many people have done this witha 3540 theres a whole thread and pics of what to do somewhere on this site, u need a 10mm spacer minimum and slightly grind at engine mount so dose pipe ect will fit on front of turbo

Your worrying about 'stealth reasons' and your have a forward facing plenum? I think the games up if anyone lifted the bonnet. haha Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

The inlet manifold is legal. It is standard NA which is modified to face forward. Nothing illegal about it. I get your point but I am trying to make every little thing as stealth as possible. Not every cop these days would know what at stock VLT engine bay looks like down to the last nut and bolt. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
