So i know that the turbo oil seals are dead as the past year it has slowly started blowing more smoke since rebuilding the turbo its now at the point where is blows a lot of smoke after boosting .
The past week the cabin has been filling with smoke so i though exhaust leak.. and running a bit rough, kind of sounds like a subaru at low revs but sounds normal inthe higher rpms which i thought was the spark plugs fouling up"
Today i top the oil up as it was a bit low. Once there is decent oil pressure the car smokes more (has been doing this for the past 6 months) so i take it for a quick spin (10psi), smoke is pouring from the exhaust and engine bay. Smoke was comming out of this on top of rocker cover
and also my dipstick had shot out and engine bay covered in oil (not to sure if i actually put the dipstick back in properly before taking it for a drive)
Is this blow by? is my motor ****ed or is this a blown turbo issue?? Also car runs fine while boosting, no noticable loss in power
Im currently waiting for car to cool down so i can inspect the spark plugs

pcv may be blocked, but i think id be finding a new block and fixing the turbski

i think a compression test is also needed

that thing on rocker cover is also vented to atmosphere (i dont know where it goes on a n/a plenum)

well that def shouldnt be vented to atmo at least have it going to a catch can

Took dip stick out, revving engine blue smoke puffing out of rocker cover and dipstick. This is blow by yeh? or the turbo is some how pushing smoke through motor is that possible?

Nothing wrong with turbo. Piston ring/s destroyed.

well being N/A i wouldn't rule out this being a head gasket, if you break the gasket from the chamber to the oil gallery it will pressurise and burn oil very easily
best bet as said above compression test it and get back to us with the results

But it wouldn't pressurise the crankcase enough to blow out a dipstick.
PS: never have a vl turbo as your one and only car lol

21-11-11, 16:33 GMT+10#13 ring lands fail caused by detonation, ive been through 3 pistons in one N/A motor, quick hone, slap another second hand N/A piston in with some decent rings and away at 15psi ya go lol
Ive had many a dipstick blow out lol

21-11-11, 17:34 GMT+10#15 All engines have some blowby.
Does it blow the dipsitck out?
as said before, compression test first.

Yeh pretty sure it blew it out, why would smoke pour out the dipstick and rocker cover if it wasnt blow by?

Going to sus the pcv out tomorrow morning and do a comp test before pciking the new motor up

would easily pressurise the crank case enough
if he compression tests it and 3 or 4 are low i'd say ring lands

21-11-11, 20:40 GMT+10#18 Will comp test it tomorrow. What should be good readings?
Also how if the comp test gives me low reading how do i know if its head gasket or rings?

22-11-11, 08:02 GMT+10#19 Mate id say rings for sure and as for comp test as long as all cylinders test ruff the same because different cams will change comp readings all i care about as long as they all comp up same and over 120psi but i reakon a few of yours will be screwed
