Hey people, Only just remembered i had an account on here so its been a while. Fixing up the ol man VH SLE 5 Litre & need some ideas on what to check. From about 60km/h to around 100 & up the car shakes. Hard to explain but feel the wheel pulling from side to side & the car shaking. Feel it bad through the steering. Ideas on what it would be & where to start looking first? The ol VH is a bit different to my suby so learning still.

Wheel bearings and Front bushes is a good place to start checking

simple things like if the wheels/tyres are balanced aswell, can often be over looked. My VH used to have a decent vibration in the steering from about 90+kph, was worse on 18s then when it was on 15s. it went away eventually, after abit of wear on the tyres. wheel alignment could also cause this vibrations.

I would be checking ball joints, tie rods, engine mounts and tail shaft too, good to hear about a blue 308 being bought back to life.

Wheel balance and run-out would be the first thing I looked at!

thanks guys, finally got it kicking over today & sounds awesome coming back to life. Need to bleed the brakes then look into all these things mentioned.

Just a thought, It's got a solid tailshaft not a 2 peice so would that cause an issue. It has a Ford 9" in it so unless the last guy has re-aligned the bracket would it be that the shaft leaves the trans at horizontal angle but goes into diff on a different angle??

The tailshaft could possibly out of balance. I would be getting the wheels balanced first and if they're ok, get the tailshaft balanced..

i'd def guess the tailshaft. sounds very similair to my reccuring hassles. apart from that could be discs need machining / wheels unbalanced / out of shape or a ver poor front end alignment. could also be excessive wear without attention to balljoints and the like.
