Hey guys, I am looking to upgrade my cooling system now I have the big front mount and TO4E high mount. It is overloading the stock system a bit. I am open to suggestions. First I am looking to go low mount in the future (stock factory low mount for sale anyone?) and am also on the hunt for a beanie for the turbine. My 2 options I came up with are: 1. New N1 GTR water pump, Raajab water pulley and a new alloy radiator (any suggestions on where to get a good priced one?) 2. Full alloy radiator, thermofans and electric water pump and controller I am open to any and all suggestions including a blend of the above. Please bear in mind I live in Adelaide (very hot in summer) and I like to drive teh car year round although i dont boost it in hot weather. I do mostly normal driving with occasional squirt, no burnouts, not flogged or raced. Thank you.

people say thermo fans but i beleive the clutch fan is better than a pissy little thermo. and good alloy radiator would do the job. if the car is driven around on street only the N1 water pump will not really do the trick unless you do alot of track work. this has been proven on SAU so either a stock water pump or a rb25 water pump would be best. the N1 is really only good at high revs. just a good beanie and probably some heat wrap in places will keep under bonnet temps down

Alloy radiators are waste of money.

I no of plenty of cars that make 300-400rwkw with standard cooling systems! That get thrashed in summer!

I would have it as per stock turbo gear. If it has an aftermarket ecu and has been tuned poorly you can see an increase in operating temps. Things like HPC coating dump pipes and manifolds will help if that is an issue.

Just take your car to a radiator joint, get them to flush the system out completely (radiator and motor). you'll be surprised how different the car will be once they get rid of all the **** that could be sitting in there from the past 20+ years

All good suggestions! Thank you. It may be the tune as I have done a lot of mods recently and am not ready to get it tuned yet. It could also be sludge too. It may also be that it is a NA radiator? (If there is a difference?) I have added a large front mount and the temp gauge is about halfway which seems a little higher than before. Where should it sit on the factory gauge? I will get a flush out and replace the standard water pump to be safe and leave the factory fan as it is.

There is a difference between a n/a radiator and a turbo afaik. One is two core and the other 3.. I beileve or so the man at NatRad told me.

thats prety good ^^ i had an na vl with a ****ed radiator, everytime you gave it **** the temp would go straight up, got even worse when i turboed it. then i threw a turbo radiator on it and you could sit on the brake untill the tyres blew Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

What is the ideal mark on the temp gauge for a hot day? 1 mm less than halfway?

Iv got the stock N/A cooling system & it only went up to the 1st mark on the gauge, now after turbo & cooler on it goes to the second, i get worried & take it easy if it goes past there lol.... Best bet would be to get a good, accurate temp gauge & keep an eye on it, if temp is getting high (mid 90's or higher) start with an upgraded radiator, cooler thermostat & a really good cooling system flush Matt

nothing wrong with the standard clutch fan and radiator alloy radiators aren't all they are puported to be get your 3 core radiator flushed and serviced, that's it Quote: i dont boost it in hot weather don't quite know what you mean by this since the turbo comes in at around 1500rpm

OK, I will make sure it is flushed and bled, get a good temp gauge and make sure it is 3 core "turbo spec" radiator. What I mean by not boosting is that it never comes onto boost at all when I drive it when it is hotter than 30 degrees. Just accelerating slowly and driving it like a normal car it never comes onto boost, maybe because it was originally a NA motor? It was 36 degrees yesterday and boost gauge never once went into boost in 45 min. of gentle driving. temp gauge went up to just fractionally below half way and stayed there.

My temp gauge sits at half way 24/7, hot days it rises just abit higher than half. Never had any issues, and its a 3core

Sweet, I feel better now. Thanks guys, I will get it flushed and bled. I just picked up a low mount for the TO4e and I will get it heat coated in my ongoing bid to reduce underbonnet temps for better reliability and performance. I just noticed that my 08 Corolla sits 1mm under half way all the time so I guess it is the norm. (never really noticed before).

I noticed my temp gauge was sitting a bit higher than I liked after I rebuilt my engine (a bit above half) had a mate ask what thermostat I'd put in it. I had replaced it with a new one from Bursons (not sure of brand, just one they had in stock) he suggested putting a new genuine one in from Nissan, I googled it, got the part number, bought one direct ffrom Nissan, fitted it, and it immediately fixed the prob! Temp gauge now sits below half in all conditions - could be worth looking into...
