Im fed up!
Im on my phone so ill sum it up best as possible...
I get a tapping noise happen when accellerating. Its only in first and second and im pretty sure its usually when under 3500 revs.
Its much louder when outside the car.
Mechanic thought it might be the thrust bearing, but was confused as to why it only happens in 1st and 2nd. He chaned the oil in the box and put some lucas stop slip in but its still happening.
Oh and yes its a 5 speed.
Please help im sick of this damn noise!!!
After months of trying to find this ive finally found/fixed it! Sounds like it was just in time by the sounds of things too! Turns out the sound was coming from the REAR, and it was the WHELL BEARINGS!

,Only reason it go's away after 1st and 2nd is because there moving that fast by 3rd the sound just blends into the motor noise

I really don't think its that. Mechanics are baffled as to why its only happening in 1st and second. There is no way its happening in any other gear, its way too loud compared to my engine and exhaust put together, and you would KNOW if it were in any other gear.
It seems to only happen when the car has warmed up a bit too. Any other ideas?

my N/A VL did this when the oil pump was screwed... it is the lifters macking the noise but when you take off in first and second you still dont have good oil pressure.. by the time it hits third the pump starts doing its job and the noise drowns out.. this also happend to my vs V6... i put money on it. Oil pump for sure

Wheel bearings??What just in 1st and 2nd.Hate to say it but that seems highly unlikely.

23-02-12, 14:26 GMT+10#13 the light tapping noise when idling is your fuel rail/injectors? correct me if im wrong,
if its a loud tap like tapping metal and can hear it a great distance away, most probly going to be the lifters, mine used to come on at randoms times, and usually go away when the oil pressure gets up
