hey all, Just woundering how strong are the Tremec T56 gearbox's? Having a standard box with a excedy button clutch, could that possible smash the box? Reason for askin this is i got a vt clubbie with this stuff and i decided to take to avalon raceway, it drove perfect there went strong in the burnout, only did one due to snapping the heater tap, and i only kept it in 1st, didnt change gears during the burnout. So on the way home i hear this noise from the box and then crunch 4th crunched, never did this. Anyway i know the box is gone, but couldthe damage be from the button clutch iv got in it being to agrressive for the standard box or are they just a weak box in general, or the previous owner has flogged it as he was a young fella like me.

Mate, i'd dare say the box has alrady been previously flogged. I know a bloke who runs a 450Kw and up to 1200nm Gassed LS1 through a T56. The biggest issue you should have is ****ting clutches, and or diff/tailshaft. Does pay to keep an eyn on your gear oil though, this will ensure longevity.

Cheers man, i figured as much it had been living a hard life coz from 1 burnout i was shocked, and i have heard that the T56's are a pretty strong box.

Pretty sure MRHDT is pushing around 900-1000hp through a t56 out of his blown vk. I was always under the impression that they were an extremely tough box

They are quite tough, though like any box abuse them and they will die. The old load them up on the highway with 1500hp won't kill them Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

yer i think mine just lived a hard life, when i got the car the guards were full of rubber, motor is still strong and pulls hard, diff thats going to be changed next as it has alot of play. So to me it only comes down to the old young owner not looking after it.

Duke57TT, haha yer I did, my Ute was the same too but with my Ute I tried to scrub the rubber off but the **** was stuck there for good, even with a wire brush I couldn't get it off, but all that rubber was when the old motor was in, neva did a burnout with the new motor in, was too scared id brake something. Hotbox, haha what a name anyway clutch is fine and still very heavy, the box still selected gears fine, just with **** rattling around down in it somewhere although when i got the car the misses said she could hear a noise from it that she didn't like, I knew the Thrust Bearing/ Throw out Bearing was noise big time.

Ok so i got my gearbox out and have found out that I smashed the slave cylinder and the bearing just behind the input shaft had let go and was left in little tiny bits and from that it caused it to take half of 4th Gear out which lead it to crunching, that what iv found so far, I got a mate coming around tomorrow to look at it further. Some Pic's I took. The Slave Cylinder........ 4th Gear, what's left of it lol The Teeth from 4th Gear. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
