Just after some opinions boys. I rebuilt a holden 308 and after it was dynoed I was a bit suprised and dissapointed with the end hp output.
The motor is as follows.
-Standard stroke 308, up 60 thou
-HQ pre pollution heads 58cc, mild port/clean up. Crow 7333 double springs.
-Yella Terra 1.65 bolt on adjustables.
-New flat tops, rings and bearings. Comp Ration is 10.5-1.
-Crow custom solid. LC 108. 242/249 @ .050''. valve lift is .5478 and .5461
-Edelbrock performer man
-Holley 650 DP.
Anyone have any idea of what this sort of combo should be good for? cheers.

to be honest its not that worked. my vh had about the same work and had 167rwkw. put a full manual trimatic and a 3.9 diff and it was running low 13's.

I think you need more comp & headwork . Once that's done chase up a single plane manifold . TK383 off aussie v8 seems to know what he's doing with HQ heads

Might just go to vn heads instead, seems to be the go.

HQ heads can be quite impressive, but the combo is what is more important.
I would hazzard a guess at 250-300hp

Cam is WAY too big for stockish HQ heads, it'd go faster with a little Hydraulic.
Even with VN heads you want to give them a mild porting for a cam that size.
Think it'd struggle to get near 300rwhp.

I meant flywheel hp, but you are spot on aZ.
With aspirated engines, the combination is what is important. The flow characteristics of your inlet and heads need to match your cam, or vice versa.

She punched out a whopping 225 RWHP lol. To say I was a little dissapointed is an understatement. I tried to do a lot of research on cam choice and that cam was sold/recommended to me by an engine builder. VN style heads and a harrop are on the cards I think
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

09-11-11, 11:04 GMT+10#10 Make no mistake that is a big cam, capable of near on 400rwhp with some more cubes and good heads. You will have to buy a new cam though as the valve pattern changes with VN heads. The cam is really the last thing you should choose, after you know what your heads flow, after you know what inlet you're using, after you know what comp the things got, THEN grind a cam to suit, don't just go the biggest someone said will work.
If you get that same cam again but to suit VN heads, id be getting your heads to flow around 500-520hp.

09-11-11, 17:39 GMT+10#11 You may as well stick with the HQ heads now . Just get them ported to suit the rest of your motor + an intake manifold to suit . As AZ said you'd have to change your intake , extractors & cam .
