just wondering if anyone knows off hand, or has a reasonable resource for me to look at, about live axles from fords, or even other cars. basically wondering what is out there in 28 spline the same length as vl's? did any ford have the same length in 28 spline? or any other car? what about longer lengths... i know vns had longer axles, did any other manufacture make longer axles in 28 spline? sorry i know its a retarded and open ended question, just figured id see if anyone knew...

http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=155191 There is no cheap option, they are all different lengths.

Thanks but neither of those threads have the information I am after, other than the housing assembly won't fit (duh). I'll sort it out myself and post back relative cost compared to just replacing studs on VL axles.

....I just told you the axles are all different lengths. Stud patterns are different in Fords and R31s (four stud). If you're asking something different, then you've worded your question poorly.

admittedly i was hoping, from all of the ford models listed, that one might coincidentally be the same length in 5x114.3, or at least just 1 axle in 5x114.3 Quote: Originally Posted by TheChad [View Post] what about longer lengths... i know vns had longer axles, did any other manufacture make longer axles in 28 spline? ideally i need to know which live axle 28 spline diffs have longer axles, as the shorter axles are obviously pointless. different stud patterns yes, but that is what i am seeking. i realise it might seem obvious, however nowhere in either of those diff threads is it mentioned which ford diffs are longer and what splines, i have searched and googled but i am not having much luck.

Ford Borg Warner 28 spline axles from the EA/EB are simillar length to VN from what I was told today when I went to order some Moser axles. About 28" if I remember correctly. I'm currently doing a 5 stud (Ford pattern) to an R31 and tried to go down the shortened axles pathway but the Ford axles are too long therefore the spline doesn't go down far enough for them to be cut. Just go to the wreckers and pull some axles out from a ****ty Ford wreck, won't be too hard to find one of hundreds stacked up in rows. :P Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

VN long side axles are longer than both VL axles. I'm going to a wrecker tomorrow; if I take my tape measure with me and cbfd I'll run it up against a few Falcons. That's how good I am to you Jack.

Haha cheers tim. please dont go to any real effort, i only asked to see if anyone knew the answer before i put any real effort in myself. really just looking to compare the cost of picking up ford axles and shortening them compared to getting new stud pattern welded and drilled onto vl axles. obviously the weld and new studs will be cheaper, however relying on fill and weld wouldnt be as safe as cut down ford axles or offset drilled skyline ones. cheers though.

Out of interest the latest street machine has a bit of a write up on bw diffs. Didn't really say much about axle lengths but might be worth a look.
