hey guys got the head off the sl wagon i was wrecking and im in the process of fitting cam,bigger springs,valve seals etc. also when i change it ova i plan on doing timing belt,water pump, maybe rings... anyway the questions om asking is what else would u do i dont wanna spend big $$ cuz i got an injected 5L to go in wen i get my blacks. so what else could i do im a mechanic by trade so parts are cheap.. is it worth porting? if so anyone have an idea of what its worth? worth shaving head for better compression? is it worth getting stainless valves or something? thicker head gasket? throttle body change? dont wanna bug people but a small list would be awesome

Its worth a whole.... $1 as it stands, they're not exactly rare lol. I'm not sure what you're doing with the head as you have mentioned shaving the head to raise compression and then adding a thicker head gasket to lower the comp in the same sentence. Maybe just start by telling people if its going to have a turbo hanging off it or not.
IMO if its not turbo setup - then don't touch it, as it's not worth spending anything on.
If it's turbo then a basic reco with cam and springs will be fine, what size cam depends on what power you want, but the 1147c, TX2 etc... have been trialed by many and work well on most setups. T/B is not needed unless you're going quick enough for a low 10 really and even then it's questionable, valves are available in 1mm-2mm and 3mm oversize but depending on what you're doing... again, it could be money just wasted.
na non turbo as i said injected 5L goin in a year and a bit, sorry meant thinner headgasket not thicker lol my bad i know there common i have 5 of them lol but i was takin the head off mine anyway so i just thought y not do a bit to it while i got it off... yer i thought the vales might be a waste but i was lookin and there not that expensice so though id ask i know most people with vls go with the whole "if its n/a leave it" thing but i just thought meh why not... may even put it in another project when i get off my ps. already got the cam n springs cheap so i thought may aswell put em in
