Hi Guys, I just wanted to find out how strong the BA turbo auto gearboxes are? What sort of power can they hold safely? Thanks

depends how much power/torque the cars making, what condition the autos in, how the car is driven, how good the tuner has set up the shift points, trans cooler etc... they suffer from many problems, some which can be fixed by a proper rebuild but they arn't the best box in the world.

The car will be making around 350rwk. Will be driven daily see the track once in a while. And wont be getting thrashed. The car already has a good trans cooler set up

A good friend of mine is making 275rwkw in his BA XR6 Turbo. Work done by Nizpro. They told him that anything over 300rwkw & its a gamble with the standard 4 speed auto. Don't forget, these cars are all at least 5-6 years old now. I'd say 350rwkw @ the track on slicks will be like a grenade with the pin pulled out. Save your cash, build a box once & enjoy your 350rwkw.

best thing to do is put a turbo 400 behind it or if you got the cash there are some other 4 speeds that are been adapted to be used.

arent the 4spds still just BTRs? lol if you get it tuned to have high line pressure and fast shifts (not like the standard flared soft bull**** shifting) and a big transcooler with a fan or awesome airflow, they will hold 300rwkw, some, probably just tuned better will be ok to 350rwkw, but as said above not the best box and a bit of a gamble

I've been told they start to get problematic around the 250KW mark.
