A couple of my lifters have managed to die in the ass yesterday, so i replaced the damaged ones with some out of a spare engine so i could drive to work today.
Now ive been ringing around all morning, and the only price ive managed to get for some New replacements are $58 each! so for 12 thats $696!! (thats through Nissan australia)
my question is, what have other people done when replaceing there lifters? just used 2nd hand ones? or have i just been calling the wrong people?
some help would be great, because its a bit of a $$ engine, and ide rather put a brand new set in it, intime for C4C hopefully.

thats about the going rate cam, another trick you can try is soaking them in a diesel mix, then in a thin mineral oil which i had done with mine a few times and it worked quite well
oh and another thing to check will be oil pressure in the top end, while the problem is noisy lifters the cause might be low oil pressure within the head

yeah i just pulled all of mine apart and soaked them in fuel then put them back together then soaked them in oil and compressed them as much as i could with my fingers and just put em back in worked well except for 1 its still ticking and driving me nuts so ill do it again with a few spares i have. stuff paying 700 bucks for new lifters
here is the thread on how to pull em apart and clean em. its a pretty fiddly job and ya might lose a few bits so best to have a few spares for parts.

well ive just found some non-genuine ones from bursons for $8ea, im getting a set this afternoon, see how they go.
yeh Chris, my problem was low oil, a couple of them are completely gone, the no1 intake lifter was smashed to bits on the top, alot of air had gotten into that one. far beyond repair! my fault though, and im lucky only the lifters are fucked :S
vlwagz, i read in the service manual about checking these, and they reckon you should not be able to compress them more than 1mm, any more and there said to be done for. a couple of mine you could push in 5-8mm...
