Stock BW78? I personally put in a Harrop Detroit TruTrac customised to 31 spline, 31 spline billet axles, new 3.7:1 gears, and boxed lower trailing arms. http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showpo...&postcount=350 (http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showpost.php?p=2342144&postcount=350)

axles broke id say it was to do with the mini spool either you go full spool with billet 31 spline axles or go true trac

Get a 9", can't go wrong. Full spool, 31 billet axle's and 3.9 gears.

ide be leaning towards stripped teeth on the pinion/crownwheel. pretty easy fix. only other option is as above, upgraded axles, which means a new centre aswell.

in other words just spend the money on a modded 9" there is a reason why people go 9"

biggest problem with borg warner 78s when you start putting slicks on the arse is the caps become the weak point for them. cant take the load at all, best leave it for the 9inch's Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

They can be strengthened, people are using BW78 in some very quick cars. The 9" is not the be all and end all but they are strong diffs.

As above. A properly built BW78 will go a long way. What're they? Quote: Originally Posted by HTURBO Can you rebuild standard VL turbo diffs stronger. Their design makes them poor, and hard to improve upon (without replacing it). The cones wear out, and then you lose your LSD action. You can increase the pressure on the cones with bigger shims and temporarily gain a more reliable LSD action, but it will only last as long as your driving style. The simple answer is a consistently long-term reliable, and comfortably driveable limited slip differential, is rarely a factory unit, modified or not, and costs the money it's worth. Just the answer I was looking for, thanks.

i'm currently doing a complete rear end build up. not really a high power car but i've refreshed all of the rubbers and put in a mechanical locker. if you haven't already i'd make sure all of your suspension and rubbers are up to par. most likely its the spool which caused the problem but if you can reduce the movement of the diff can't be a bad start.

you can strenthen most of the diff, the weakest point then will allways be the pinion. as far as i know there are no aftermarket options available, so you might just have to keep replacing gears every time they brake. unless some one on here is a fitter and turner and can make sets of gears out of a stronger material??????

New gears are around $700 a set, so billet is going be more.
