So it looks like I might have finally found a car! It's a 1988 Series 2 VL Calais with 260,xxxkms on the dash but has a berlina dash because the fuel gauge f**ked up in the original and apparently the engine only has 250,xxxkms. Seems a bit sus to me though.. Had the head replaced a year ago because it cracked.. I'll be the third owner with the first being an older guy owning it, from new, for 18 years (the current owners boss) and the second owner having it for 5 years since he was 16... Its got a lil stereo with 6x9s, amp, xplod sub and JVC deck and comes with original polished wheels.. But then theres the bad points, headlights dont pop up (apparently the arms are f**ked), crack in the windshield, missing the left side windshield seal, was properly lowered but then he cut the springs on the rear to make it lower, has a hole under the solex lock on the drivers side where someone tried to break in (unsucessfully). Getting an inspection done on it tomorrow so hopefully it comes back sweet and I'll have a new car! He's askin $5200 but he's even told me he's leniant when it comes to price so I'm thinking $4500 shouldn't be a problem (gonna try for $4200 first though) Let me know what you all think of the car and if it's worth it and drop some knowledge on me if I've missed anything!!
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
Looks ok, check if the numbers match too, and do a revs check if you feel to unsafe about it, good thing your getting an inspection, dont ruch anything!
Keep looking, a n/a calais with 300,000 n non working headlights for 5 grand? That's a joke, I sold my vx with 180,000 properly lowered rims tint full electrics everything for 6
way overpriced, it's a buyers market
you can and should get a lateish model car for those $
that calais has cut springs, needs a windscreen and work on the flip front
plus I would never buy a car that's been owned by a 16 y/o, the cut springs should give you the hint
What can I check the numbers against Jako? Yea gonna do the revs check tonight.. Well for starters kizza, it's not 300,000kms it's only 260kms and maybe so but VXs aren't as sought after as VL Calais.. Infact they're a dime a dozen and after owning a VX SS in the past, I wouldn't say they're anything special.. Nice car, just nothing that would make me want another one..

Yea I know but tryna find a decent VL Calais down here in Adelaide is almost impossible!!
so you're buying it but seeking reassurance that your decision is 'the right one' ?
VX: airbags, abs, decent security system, not a high theft risk, cheap insurance, reliable
VL: cut springs, cracked screen, no security, high theft risk and easy to steal, expensive insurance, reliability issues
there's your reassurance
Well look.. Like I said before I've owned a VX and would rather buy a VL or a VP this time... The car market isn't as good down here in SA as it is in say VIC and I need something asap so I can't be extremely picky.. I've already had inspections done on both a VP Calais (SA) and a VQ State-o (VIC) and been told to stay away from them and am running out of time to get a car... So either I end up with this car and fix its few bad points or spend f**k knows how long searching and how many dollars in inspections until a find a diamond in the rough and I dont have the time or unlimited inspection budget to do the second option....
