ok i have had a half ass build thread which was originaly a question that was turned into a build thread so i have decided to make a dedicated build thread.
the story of MY 88 VL
the vehicle was bought for me as my first car back in 2007. it was bought from a 83 year old bloke in manjimup. he had not been able to drive for 15 years so the VL sat in the garage for 15 years. it had only 104 000kms on the clock. i couldnt go past it 104000kms manual not a scratch or dent still the 14" wheels with hubcaps. i was in heaven.
being a P plater i could not afford many mods straight up so first thing first was some shoes for her. i bought some vy 15" pursuities and slapped them on her. then i lowered with some dobinson super lows and monroe gt sport lowered shocks. then a 2.5" cat back went on her. thats how she sat for about a year until i lost my license. then the real work started. at the time i was rebuilding engines for a living so the rb30 came out for a makeover.
the rb30 was build from ground up. ross racing pistons, Spool H-beam rods, acl race bearings, ported and polished head, crow cams tx2 and full acl race series gasket set.

while the engine was out i took up the oppurtunity to sand back the engine bay and paint it black make the new shiny engine stand out.

and life went on as per usual i found myself a Mrs and got myself a house. this made plans change. so the built rb30 that sat wrapped in plastic for a year and a bit was pulled out of the corner and sold to fund for the new house
4 months later the funds started to come to start on the car again. here it was decided to go for a rb25det conversion. so i hunted for a few weeks for a decent half cut. i found one at KYP in welshpool with 89 000kms on the clock and with a compression test of 150-152 across the board.

over the next few months the build really began to move
after all the hard labour at home she then went out to shaun at grapnels for a custom 3" turbo back and then off to autoworx for the microtech to be wired in and tuned. couple of months later she was ready to be picked up with the power of 189.1rwkw. i was stocked after nealy 2 and a bit years of been in build she was on the road. then disaster struck 4 weeks later. i was given a yellow sticker for the new shoes ( 19x8 VE SS-V rims) being to close to the guards. so currently its getting engineered and licensed with a rb25det. once that is done i have some big plans for her

my plan is to get a hypergear atr43G3 straight bolt on turbo to standard manifold and 740cc injectors and a tune. stao thinks i will get 300rwkw easy with those mods. then ill start on the suspension and some cosmetic mods. i really just want to keep it a sleeper

Was thinking the same.....
Nice car mate, u have done a ripper job but i would think twice about the 300RWKW out of a standard motor if u dont want it off the road for a while again.....

02-09-11, 22:39 GMT+10#10 Get it on the strip to c wat pwr ur really making, dyno is only a tuning tool, dayne has gone thru 2 motors to get it to were it is and last I heard it's got a forged bottom end so isn't exactly stock! There's heaps of vls with na motors on this site making over
300rwkw with just bolt ons, ppl just think is cheap pwr, only takes one to many lean outs and it's all over.
Btw urs n pedros n dans haven't made 400atw yet so don't count

02-09-11, 23:16 GMT+10#12 Yeah problem is I want to stick to internal gate and hypergear do a a easy bolt on no modding hoses but I wouldn't mind going a gt3076 well it's not for a while so we will see how it goes. If you spend as much time on sau as I do you will find out how reliable 300rwkw through a stock rb25 is plenty of them and plenty reliable ones also

03-09-11, 00:40 GMT+10#15 Ahhh the old 30et vs the 25det. At the end of the day its up to u. 30 = lotsa bottom end and can make good horsepowerwiv mods or 25 that is reLiable and can make good horsepower wiv bolt ons but at the end of the day its a stock motor. Either wAy dip into ur pocket

03-09-11, 02:56 GMT+10#17 hks 2835 pro s comes internal gate, bolts on to the stock ex. manifold which is good for bulk powas. heaps good response.
3037/3076 wont fit in low mount, but they both have the option of internal gate

03-09-11, 10:05 GMT+10#20 haha ok guys less arguing its a build thread not a rb25 vs 30 thread haha. caibs i did abit of reading the 30/76 can be low mounted on stock manifold with the correct spacer skylines have trouble with it due to compressor housing hitting strut tower but i have alot more room then them
