Description Basically, i have a Marlin blue vlbt. Converted, with dyno graphs. made 179kw on a conversion vlbt. Nothing special, but theres about 5 dyno graphs taken at various points of my apprenticeship (Many years ago actually... I have been at Metro Holden for almost 7 years now..) All the Dyno graphs I have are freakin awesome, and dynoed by Jamie and Leon... lol.
The dyno printouts did start back then, and if I recall, we made 80 something KWs.. (the graphs are in my room.. and the missus is asleep right now.. lol)
Anyway, after a terrible result of straight 6 N/A on the dyno that Friday afternoon that 80 so KWs was something to build on. So I did.
After saving a bit of cash here and there, I managed to save enough cash to start installing some ****.. (Namely a Boost Gauge. It read in vacuum due to my lack of positive boost pressure that summer. Yeah, I did it in slow stages.. Wanna fight about it?)
Charles (Yeti) can confirm the difficulty had trying to get this standard turbo kit to me here in Adelaide..
I mean, I was insanely easy to get the turbo parts to me. I totally didn't wait day in and out for this standard kit of X amount of money to arrive to my work place for about the last month of the 2rd year of my apprenticeship..
Charles literally called my mobile during my last exam. I knew what was important...
I took the call.
Basically, after 2 wins that day, Charles going out of his way for some random he had never met being the first (Letting someone else know whats what included) , and me finishing the therory of my 2nd yr apprenticship being the second. I booked some time off work.
Although the time i took off was a couple months later. I did not regret the wait. Turbo kit arrived safely and I fitted it. I do actually regret telling the manager it was up to him when I took the time off.. IT WAS THE HOTTEST WEEK OF THAT SUMMER HE CHOSE!! (Thinking back, kinda glad he is no longer my manager... he was kinda a prick.)
After fitting everything, leaked coolant, fixing the leak, then leaking oil, then fixing the leak, then leaking manifold pressure, fixing the leak, then decided to kill myself..
Luckily I didn't. Also found out I had a dodgy wastegate, only allowing 4 PSI.. (Wayne can confirm this..) LULZ
Fixed it on the dyno at tafe the next visit....
*FAST FORWARD* Cause im kinda getting bored with this this story.. Started going to mallala once a week for work.. A Certain Force we work with at Metros required my assistance with driver Training at the Mallala race track. We all had our LuLs.. and to this day I dunno how I didn't get defected.. but basically I drove it daily. I mean every day.
The odometer stopped around 146,000ish.. and I was proud to clock a lot of them on.. probably around 160,000 now. But the gear broke. I needed to contact VDO.
Basically.. I didn't.
Months passed, and I noticed milkyness in the oil cap. Pulled the rocker cover and head off and realised it was cracked.
It sat around work for a bit, then I managed to finally fund a good non-cracked head (thanks mum..) Also got a mild Cam from Camtech.. Dialed it up and got back on the road again..
N/A trans started to slip.. so I bought a S14A (Thats the fix, Right?)
Drifted for a few months, got T-boned by a pair of Seniors in a Camry, and replaced the CAS that failed on my weekly start ups of the VLBT...
Worked well. Until the trans was slipping till the point that I and the missus (who I have somewhat failed to mention until this point) couldn't get to work without reving out, hitting boost, and suddenly hitting drive and launching.. much to the shock of bystanders.. (Heh)
Bought a VLT Auto trans, had it rebuilt, shift kitted, and a 3,000k or so stally..
Back on the road! Loving it. Off to Moonta (Muddy photos available on request). Home Sunday, Mallala on Tuesday, then kinda came to a stop on the way home between Mallala and Two Wells.. (SA, Rural..)
Blew a head gasket... in 3 places, and this was taking it easy!
Joined the RAA (Premium) hoping for a tow home.
I got 20kms. I then payed 1/4 of the price to get it the rest of the 70kms home (thanks RAA.. Sorry, kinda forgot to renew the membership )
Trans not even run in.
So yeah, that was a bit over a year ago...
May seem like a troublesome story, but for a standard S2 NA motor, I like to think she kicked on fair well, considering we doubled the standard power and tripled the torque (according to our dyno graphs.. before we finished the mods)
Yeah, I kinda got qualified as a mechanic, lost free use of a dyno.. so who whos what it put out before it blew that gasket (after the cam, trans, intake fun, and the 3 inch exhaust off of NSNPWRs VLBT..)
Was fun.. but basically. I have a new car now.
(When she blew the gasket, I needed to be in Vic a week later.. )
Was planning on popping it back together and going fast again.. but I have managed to further my career to the point where I work many more hours and get paid nothing more... so I unfortunately need to open it up..
For sale as is, not running, Just needs a head gasket and some love. (Top end of motors in boot)
Or wrecking if enough intrest is generated.
Being an EOI thats open for offers, I kinda thought other people would state what its worth to them..
Either way, I'll put down $5,000 as the magical figure as a whole, since I spent way more than that on parts.
Yeah, long story to a kinda **** ending hey
