Hi everyone. Just a question about turbo diffs. I've noticed lately when I spin the wheels I only doing a single pegger. Can LSD diff wear out. I remember years ago you would see a decent 2 wheel burnout/marks. Now their's only one.
Their's a bloke at the pub saying diffs do wear out. Is that true??
Can diffs be rebuilt??
Thanks

Wicked, but how to you burn diffs. Oh well might as well burn the hole car LOL.

Dunno if your serious or not lol, but it's easy to check, just remove the cover plate and check the remaining clearance the cones have, they have more than likely bottomed out which causes it to unload one wheel. This is pretty easy to fix.. New LSD has about 0.040" clearance.

Wicked, thanks Marzella!!!

Borg warner LSD's are hopeless.. i put a reshimmed one in mine, was tight as but within 10,000kmls/6months its already pulling singles around corners. My mates have all had similar experiences.

No. Just rebuild your 28 spline BW

Yes, but be prepared to pay 5 times the price of a rebuild.
@Marzella; the cones are inside the diffeential centre, and not really easy to access at all.

Yes im aware, what i meant was it is easy to check the condition of the cones. There are windows in the carrier for each cone to slide in a feeler gauge and check the remaining clearance. Over time the cones wear and go deeper and deeper until they bottom out at which point you will open wheel without fail.
To fix this you either machine or replace cones. Which becomes pretty easy once you have done it a few times.
Here is one i prepared earlier yellow circle shows where you check the clearance.
Also dont just go shim the absolute **** out of it this is not a good thing either and will wear it out prematurely also.

I dont know the answer but opening the floor to a discussion about KAZ centers and detroit lockers..?
Both are good.. People generally whack off lyrical about whatever they are selling. I've used both and the Kaz needed rebuilding and acted like a locker at times with the same bangs and noises. Possibly the way the diff guy built it who knows. The mechanical LSD on the other hand is quiet and only works as a locker under power. No problems touch wood so far.
The other thing they always bang on about is unloading a wheel through a fast corner and the car open wheeling with a trutrack.. I can honestly say I've hit ripple strips so hard that I've easily got wheels in the air and I've never lost drive. So whatever tickles your fancy they both work.
If you where really worried, I would pick a KAZ for the track and a trutrack for the street drags but my trutrack has always performed flawlessly anyway.
I picked up a new VLT diff with a fresh LSD in it.
Rookie warning...
So, how exactly do LSD's get worn out?
Theoretically, ever corner i turn around without braking traction the diff cones and forced to spin on themsevles and are worn out? Or am i way off here.
