Hi guys, looking at upgrading to a powerglide in my vl, its mainly street, few strip days throughout the year. what are they like driving on the street, and on long trips? also what stall would you suggest? if i go down this rout, i dont want it to be a pig on the street, but also want it to cruise, if thats possible? i have a t04z with 3.77 gears please lookin for answers from guys that run one or have previously. cheers

top gear is still 1:1 ratio so its the same as any other non over drive box like a trimatic for example. 1st gear is a little tall but seems hardley noticable, the ones i've been in were fine, its more the engine/drive line combo that makes it laggy taking off.

Best thing I've ever done too. Like it was mentioned above top gear is the same ratio as 3rd in a 3 speed anyway. Its perfect for cruising around, ripping skids, powercruise, drags. Economy is going to be the same as any auto with a decent convertor in it. Transbrake is also a good option if you plan on racing the car, especially with the T04Z

you end up saving money if you get powerglide, wont be fixing 3 speeds anymore

thats true, snapping input shafts in 3 speeds and intermediate shafts in 4 speeds is pretty expensive, even the vasco and hi-tuff ones were breaking. A glide is the go.

I'd agree with the above comments. They're great for the street. First gear seems as if you've begun in second gear in a three speed and top gear is the same as a normal three speed top gear. Not many people with big power can use 1st gear on the street any way so there's not much point having a real short first.

thanks for the comments and replies guys, pretty much going to take the 2speed path i think, i am aming for up to 400rwkw, built engine to4z e85 and allot of boost the engine is out now so i thought id do something with the box while its will be a bit easier!

i have had a glide also and they are the best valve for money and will hold the power all day everyday with ease... i also dont mond the c4 box as you have the 3 gears and is also strong, but is more expensive to build from memory... have you already built your motor?

yeah argreed that 1st gear in most 3 speeds just smokes the tyres most of the time. 1st with a powerglide sort of eases on the power so you can get traction a bit better. not allways the case, obviously depends on the set up and the rest of the car.

I love my powerglide! does feels kinda weird driving round town in 1st all the time sometimes lol. And I must say having a 3 speed is a little more streetable, but I can definitely recomend a glide as everyone else above has. P.S They are awesome for doing mad power slides hahah Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Will not waist my time with any other gear box I love it.. I had nothing but trouble with the jatco Keas trans braked 350rwkw box.. I give the car heaps but used the tbreak 2 times and was never happy even after 4 rebuilds of it at full price power glide is deff the best thing I have done and love life.. Feels so solid and strong when under power I don't even think of what if it breaks again!! 100% Get one is my vote Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
