Hey guys, i just acquired a new vl. Its an '88 berlina, with 164000k's on it, not only this but its completely stock and even all but two windows still have their original etching on them. The car is pretty mint, especially inside but the paint is bad in some spots, ill post pics tomorrow. So basically im not sure whether to change anything on it which i would prefer or keep it stock? write a comment with any suggestions.

Ok, as promised, still needs a bit of work but all in all not too bad.
So, what do you think CT??

bah mod it!
it loks clean so any paint blemishes may come up with a polish. if you are modding it just try to keep the interior / exterio in good standard appearance e.g. no undercar neons, painted dashes etc. you can slap a turbo conversion or a set of extractors on there and not devalue it a cent.

I bought mine exactly the same as yours - identical to yours (with the exception of a a 22I interior, series 1). Have a look at it now!
It's up to you and what you want out of it. If you're happy cruising around in stock form, go for it - people are always going to appreciate an unmolested example kept in good condition. Having said that, it's not a factory rarity, so it won't go up in value much over time in stock form.
But otherwise, good example. Reppin' the Berlinas!

Nah the drivers side is a bit poor, theres a dint in the door and rear dogleg, and the paint is coming off the guard, so i'll need to fix them. But thanks for the comment good to see someone is atleast a bit interested

Nice find mate, nice and stock. As its been said, modify it tastefully, no spray can job interior. If it was mine id firstly be looking at a good service... New oil and oil filter, air filter, new coolant (give it a flush), new plugs and leads, take the throttle body off and give it a clean.. check all other fluid levels.
From there, look at getting it sitting a bit lower on some good king springs
Take off the mud flaps (and keep them)
New head unit and some 6x9s
A set of chaser rims with center caps and chrome trims if youre on a budget
Extractors ($50 second hand) and a cat back exhuast for that p plater spec exhaust note.
Possible manual conversion if thats what youre after, or just leave it a nice auto cruiser.
TURBO IT yeeeeeeah

Sounds great, its over due for its 155000, all the rest are signed off just not that one. Do you think i should redo the parcel shelf for the 6x9's? and recover it in similar material to the original fabric, if that's even available?? Where do you get the chrome rings? Autobarn or somewhere? And the centre caps, do you have a part number or anything? Manual definitely when i can afford it, just gotta sell the MR2 to raise some funds. Turbo one day...

That's awesome, how did you fix your antenna? Mine doesn't work either, I need to replace the shaft coz its stuffed, but it isn't getting any power from the car, the wires look a bit dodgy because there are two grommets and wires that go nowhere? was your antenna like this?

The rear mud flaps are non-genuine, so You don't have to keep them. Change stereo (but dont put speakers in the doors!), ride height and wheels then put a complete turbo driveline in it!
Nice find mate.

The other one might be, they're both different, the off side one is a more bold text. Where do you suggest i put the speakers? the 4" speakers don't have enough bass and i prefer to have most of the sound coming from the front? Yeah would like to slam it on chasers and put a turbo on, need to get an exemption tho :'(

I re did my parcel shelf with 16mm mdf and covered it in some blue marine carpet.. matched the interior enough for my liking. The thin factory masonite one used to rattle like hell. My shelf held down by screws up from the boot through existing holes, nice and solid.. no rattle.
Youll find you have to either cut out the the metal beneath the parcel shelf for clearance for the big 6x9 magnet, or run spacers.
Get chrome trims cheaper off ebay, about $75 delivered. For center caps just sus out some wreckers and keep an eye on ebay, they pop up all the time. Ebay dat shiit (http://shop.ebay.com.au/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=commodore+center+caps&_sacat=See-All-Categories)

29-07-11, 18:30 GMT+10#11 If You get a head unit with sub control, you can run quality 4" speakers in the dash, 6.5" speakers in the parcel shelf and a sub or two in the boot. You will get loud, clear mid range and treble though your speakers and all the bass from the subs and You won't have to modify anything.
I love seeing minta VLs, but when I see speakers mounted in the doors, I vomit.

I did the parcel shelf in my last vl (http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/showthread.php?t=225434) (dont hate me i was young and impoverished) although i still am the latter so I think i might try and do something similar to that. Thanks lol, probably should have checked ebay myself.

Maybe I should grab the back ones out of the MR2 before it goes.
I'm not a fan of the vs pods but I might eventually grab some old door trims from a wreckers and see what I can come up with.

To be honest I never did get around to fixing the antenna (worked, but did not extend/retract). It needed a new motor (seal had withered on the casing, got water in it and destroyed the gears). You can buy aftermarket replacement motors (full kit including antenna) for about $120 from Super Cheap Auto. So is it not plugged in? Otherwise, the antenna motor does have an inline fuse behind the passenger side kick panel.
I don't even have a sound system any more, roll cage took care of that.

I think it was, but they cut some of the wire off and left it there, I shall look for that fuse tomorrow, then hopefully its only the mast and not the gears like yours, because the motor was fine when i hooked it direct to the battery.

30-07-11, 14:20 GMT+10#16 Bit of an update, got rid of the towbar tongue and mudflaps. Also had a bit of a gin around with the antenna, all working now but need a new shaft. But unfortunately that will be about it for this weekend and maybe a while until i sell the MR2.

01-08-11, 12:23 GMT+10#17 looks fairly neat.
To be honest i think you should leave it reasonable stock. Its not a rare car but if you tweak the engine a little bit you'll only enjoy it more plus you wont get the hassles of a highly modified car

Thanks,
I don't really plan on modifying it too much, probably just chasers and manual conversion and a bit of a play with the engine.
