Hi there guys , I have been thinking of buying an Ex-Taxi Wagon as a work vehicle. I'm wondering what typical condition are these vehicle's like after 700,000 / 800,000 Thousand on them. I know most of them would of seen a new diff or tranny put in / Most case's Reco engines. Has any one out there bought any of these cars or have knowledge that these cars do get well mantained / or Work at place that knows that the car's get fixed etc. Cheers Rob

I wouldn't buy one, theyre absolutely trashed. Not only the drive line but doors and hinges and every aspect of the car... they do about 40 years of wear and tear in a year.

as above, I have worked on taxi's.. Their owners are tight asses! When they are de-commissioned, they are ROOTED! I personally think that they should not be able to be re-registered EDIT: some of the privately owned taxi's are a looked after a bit better.

Speak to any taxi driver if they woud buy one! There is no chance. As a wreck with gas a typical falcon with 200,000k's makes $500.A complete yellow wagon with 800,000k's makes $300. at Manheim Auctions. There is "NO" life left in the vehicle even 2 wreck.Any useable parts get swapped at decommisioning.

Sweet thanks for some insight. Yeah if was even to look at one , I'd have to only see a private owned one. I'll post a couple of links for the examples out there : http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/...0Lpg&trecs=126 (http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=11008263&keywords=Wagon%20Lpg&__Ntk=CarAll&__Nne=15&__Dx=mode%20matchany&PriceTo=443&__D=Wagon%20Lpg&silo=1011&seot=1&__sid=13162EA33E60&__N=834%201216%201246%201247%201252%201282%20443&__Ns=pCar_PriceSort_Decimal|0||pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&__Qpb=1&__Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&Cr=3&__Ntt=Wagon%20Lpg&trecs=126) http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/... %20&trecs=10 (http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=11029965&keywords=BF%20WAGON%20&__Ntk=CarAll&__Nne=15&__Dx=mode%20matchany&PriceTo=443&__D=BF%20WAGON&silo=1011&seot=1&__sid=13162EA33E60&__N=834%201216%201246%201247%201252%201282%20443&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Price_Decimal|1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&__Qpb=1&__Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&Cr=1&__Ntt=BF%20WAGON%20&trecs=10) http://vic.gumtree.com.au/c-Cars-Veh...AdIdZ290966994 (http://vic.gumtree.com.au/c-Cars-Vehicles-Motorbikes-Parts-cars-ex-taxi-for-sale-W0QQAdIdZ290966994) Cheers Rob ---------- Post added 25-07-11 at 20:24 ---------- Oh id be willing to spend around 1.5k or so to fix a few things etc if i was to go down this road. I'd love to see you use proper english Mu point taxis arent as bad as you all make out. Sure there be 90% that are trashed but if you know anything about cars youd be able to see vast majority of problems. Oh and ofcoarse he wont do 11's on taxi diff you need to put a spool in at least. Also i never said the motor was in an ex taxi all i said it was an ex taxi motor Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

despite the fact that most of them are stuffed by the time they are decommisioned you seem to want to so just do it, you'll learn

ex fleet is fine. they typically sell at just over 100,000km. yeah they might not be treated great but whatever. my current wagon was an ex company car (not fleet) and we bought it at 100,000km. it has done 170 now and still strong. as for taxis my old school busdriver had one. he use to drive it from shepparton to nagambe everyday, pick up the bus, run that into schools, then back out then drive the taxi from nagambie back to shepp again. 5 days a week. never let him down. they will have excessive wear but if you slapped in a new seat and didn't care about the condition should be fine. otherwise find a eb / vs era wagon and put that on dual fuel. even a magna of that age. should be cheap to run and probably have more life. since the cars are always running they don't get a lot of startup wear with cold oil and the like.

they might be thrashed but if you just want a run around, get a BA with a BTR. if the engine or tranny is ****ed they're fair cheap to replace, around $250-$300 for long engine and a BA BTR wouldn't sell for more than $150 second hand i'd think, the e series BTR go for $50-$80 lol... interior pieces are cheap for base model **** as well you'd have to find one that has a few strong point though, not just everything flogged, and would have to take a good look at any pros vs cons and hope you get lucky? haha

besides when you see an ex taxi on the road you just look like a tight ass who couldn't afford a real car.
