I have a couple of RB30E engines here, one being from a vl, the other from a r31 skyline and have the head off both of them but I've noticed that vl head bolt's have a thread throughout most of the length of the bolt whereas the Nissan bolt is solid metal with the normal thread at the bottom. I was also told that one of the two is reusable, pretty sure it was the bolt from the r31?? Does anyone know this for sure?? Thanks-

The ones from the VL engine sound like aftermarket ones to me. The 31 bolts sound like the factory ones I've come across. I did read ages ago (I think it was in the genuine Nissan workshop manual) that yes they can be reused but only twice. After that they stretch too much and can break. Unless you know for sure how many times they've been used I would be getting new ones. (I think they only cost around $50 for aftermarkets ones) Having to get a broken head bolt out of a block can be a c&#*
