plastic bags over all vulnerable parts like coil packs, electrical connections, relays etc
do it on a hot dry day and leave the bonnet up for ages afterwards to let it dry out properly before trying to start it
do it somewhere you'd be ok leaving the car at overnight if necessary (if it won't start)
have some tools and compressed air with you to help dry things out

Chances are itll be fine on a late model EFI car, ive degreased/washed engine bay before and havnt had any problems with running rough or not starting

didn't spot the LS1 part
even late model cars can be affected badly but yes less likely than older ones
i'd leave it off and cooled down prior to washing to avoid cracking anything

The reason why I decided to rebuild Evilpet's engine and replace everything to re-dress the engine bay is because the so called "professional" outfit that was supposed to detail my engine degreased it with an acid based degreaser ruining the bay / engine by tarnishing all the brand new clips and polished parts and stripping detail paintwork in places. Expensive lesson for me as the pr*cks wouldn't pay for it. Wrap bits carefully as mentioned.
Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
