grind crank
dismantle, asseemble long motor, check all clearances, set deck height, modify studs to suit block, fit timing and camshaft dial, paint
balance engine assembly
service head
mild tidy of ports and set up springs to suit camshaft and boost
JE forged pistons and rings
H beam conrods, ARP main stud kit, ARP head stud kit, Gaskets set, MLS race head gasket, Race Bearings, Timing kit, Vernier camshaft gear
Crow camshaft
crow performane valve springs
stainless exhuats va;ves
stainles intake valves
$10500

it seems alrite depends if you have the cash to spennd 400rwkw is big power from a rb30 dont kid your self with that it will aldepend on the turbo and fuel system to match it
you have forgies and h beams there they can be quiet pricey ive seen quotes from the bigger shops of 15000 for 440rwkw motors ? what cam are they supplying will it have a gridle

Dude 11k is ok they rip u on the machining side u can save slot by supplying the parts yaself and assembling it yaself, I'd do it for 10k for ya if u were in Vic

I'd say thats fair. Especially fair because your in Kalgoorly, might get a more copetative price in the city, but not your local mech.
10 - 11k You get what you pay for, and it's wise to pay just a little bit more to know your getting the best, professionly built + warranty and after service.
On the flip side if you pay a little bit less your compromising a whole lot more.... remeber "the poor man always pays twice"

i dont think i will even need half these parts to be honest, im only chasing 270-300rwkw as of today just complately over the money pit..... i have wat i need for this power except an engine.... im thinking go with the pistons and rods, standard serviced head?

Man it's been proven time and time again that the factory engine un opened will support over 300rwkw with out any dramas, do ya self a favour and buy ya gear online and save thousands

Personally id build it right the first time, that way i know i wont have to worry bout it later on in the track and do it all over again..
Only things id change in that quote is a set of ARGO rods, JUN oil pump or what you prefer i just use jun and a descent harmonic balancer... thats just what id do..

RB30 would have to be the easiest engine to assemble yourself. There are huge range of performance parts readily available and cheap online.
Using only standard crank and turbo oil pump and sump you can build a forged bottom end with H-beams, forgies, machine work, balancing, new harm balancer, ARP head and mains kits, gaskets + cometic head gasket for easy under 4k.
Head wise if you want to keep SOHC you can spend up to $2k for a reco with some match porting to manifolds with cam upgrade ready to bolt on. Alternatively buy a RB25 head give it a good check over and bolt it on.
Bulletproof for up to 400rwkw and then some for under 6k. If chasing more power I would change the oil pump to an external setup.

22-07-11, 20:15 GMT+10#10 after reading that to my understanding a standard rebuild, reco head, and chuck in some spool rods on standard pistons, will easily handle 300rwkw, am i right

22-07-11, 20:37 GMT+10#11 if u think u can build a forged rb30 for 4k you are dreaming!!! come on,
but yes around the 10k mark seems on the money! any decent build will cost you! machining is the Killer do it once! line bore torque plate deck the block etc
remember the standard pistons are over 20years old now it would be worth the extra money to buy new ones

22-07-11, 22:38 GMT+10#13 I paid a fair bit less for a similar combo - call M& W engine services in Ballarat - it'll be worth your while.

23-07-11, 08:03 GMT+10#14 too expensive, as above there are guys on here who have paid and had fully forged motors built for $3-5K.
Who is doing the work?

23-07-11, 08:57 GMT+10#15 Maatouks quoted me about 5k for a forged motor...

23-07-11, 21:53 GMT+10#16 its a workshop in perth thats quoted that, i might just go with standard pistons and h-beam rods......

23-07-11, 22:06 GMT+10#17 i dont think they recomended you to use forged rods with standard pistons. just standard rods and standard pistons
---------- Post added 23-07-11 at 22:07 ----------
if you go forged rods youd be silly not to go forged pistons also

23-07-11, 22:14 GMT+10#18 ive seen 300rwkw from a basic acl rebuild kit using acl pistons of course but from my experance machining cost dollors no matter what you do you will wont to
bore
deck the block
line hone
torque plate bore if you can
crank grind
resize rods
this is a min what you would need to do and there is no parts there look at 1500 at least
your quote could mean them pulling the motor and installing it for you ask for a detailed quote
hit paul up at prt in canningvale hes good for his quality and prices

23-07-11, 23:20 GMT+10#19 If You are only chasing a max of 300kw, dont worry about all the bells and whistles. If You start with a good enough engine You will get away with the bare minimum.
New cast pistons
Hone bores
Shot peened standard rods
ARP rod studs
ARP main studs
ARP head studs
Nissan head gasket
as I mentioned before, if the engine is in good nick You will get away without having to do any machine work at all.

Agree. Depends if your after 300kw or 400+kw. It really depends of the condition of your engine. If you have the money to go forged. Run it till it goes boom. Then have it rebuilt.
