Nistune is setup the same on a CR31 as VL-NA (3EA/3EM). the ECU required for your R31 is different though, the fuel pump controller is part of the R31 ECU but not the VL, instead the VL's had a signal triggering a relay in the fuse box (holden cheap version). I think pin 16 from memory on the middle connector. R31 AFM/MAF is different in some early models but can be interchanged if its all you've got. I would Nistune your R31 ECU rather than use a VLT or VL-NA one. Mechanically virtually identical. exception of a few covers. even the Factory Turbo'd R31 (very rare) has an ECU almost identical to the VLT with Knock Sensor board if you can find one. I've only ever seen the pre-production version. If you are Nistuning then make sure to install a good quality decompression head gasket and you'll get the most out of it. While your pulling things apart, some GTR 440's injectors never go astray and try and grab Q45 MAF to get things really going.

so i take it it will be hard to find a 31 turbo ecu,and does the nistune not work on the stock na 31 ecu,its for a drifrt car not looking for big powerr and wanto get out of it as cheap as possible, whats the best solution ---------- Post added 19-07-11 at 21:38 ---------- how much is the nistune these days ---------- Post added 20-07-11 at 20:38 ---------- anymore imput ?

all parts are the same, even the dump pipe from the vl fits nice. front mount piping will give you a headache :P when we turbo'd my mates r31 sillohette (sp) we used a stock vl ecu ? even if waht bachig24u says is the case, it would be pretty simple to add a relay in for the fuel pump.

I install the boards in either ECU's, they can be tuned to the same power levels with no compromise. Although they do need different base images but this has no affect on the way they are tuned, it is something preprogrammed by the Nistune supplier/installer at the time you buy the board. cost wise varies, the website in my signature has a price guide on it. if you need one let me know and we'll arrange something for you.

It is possible, I need to know a little more detail as you mentioned. If you can send me info that I have listed on my engine spec form (front page on the website) I can see if your car will benefit from a new rom calibration.

do you have a vlt ecu? I have a R31 ECU's if you need one. I wouldn't bother with the VLT ones as there is little benefit and more cost to install to get any benefit if at all. if you install a VLT one, you'll need a knock sensor to make it all worth while, then the extra section of wiring loom for the knock sensor, also need to wire up the fuel pump circuit with a relay. The VLT knock sensor boards are so primitive that they will almost wait until the crank drops out before detecting knock. add to the fact it doesn't store knock instances, no permanent timing adjustment is made so it just knocks at the same point every time you go for a drive. It's has very little benefit overall. It won't save your engine if you put poor fuel or adjust the base timing at the dizzy. Have I convinced you yet? Stick with a stock R31 ECU and if need be and add a seperate aftermarket knock detection system.

Yes it is , you just need to run an extra wire in for the knock sensor from memory.
