just installed a cooler and a boost gauge. both have been hooked up properly and there is no leaks or whatever that i can notice, iv throughly checked it out, but when revving in the drive way today i noticed that the boost gauge moves up to about 1-2psi, although the turbo is stock, everything is stock bar the intercooler, should there be a bit more psi?? and also when roughly does a standard vl come onto boost?? because by the time this reaches 1-2psi its red linning???

Take it for a drive and tell me how much boost it makes :-)

You wont get boost reving it in the driveway it needs to be under load to make boost take it for a drive and it will work

took it for a drive, roughly makes about 4-6 psi, its raining where i am at the moment so it was a tad hard to get it correct :P

you're obv just starting out so keep it low until you get the hang of things a bit more

18-07-11, 15:50 GMT+10#11 Need to know more about the setup to comment.. also there is a lot of threads with info on these basic mods. I believe there is even a sticky, but 10-12psi for a real turbo car on factory ECU, injectors etc is pretty normal. For anything else its a bit suck it and see.

23-07-11, 07:51 GMT+10#15 i previously asked why it wasnt making boost in neutral and you said drive which worked well got 4-6psi, now that ive moved my AFM into the cooler piping i can make boost just parked there and it seems to be going to about 7-8 now?? I have a 2800 stall, would this make any difference?

23-07-11, 15:33 GMT+10#16 Do you just have a stallie or do you have a B&M shift kit aswell. With my manual I could be in 2nd reving the guts out of it(full throttle) doing 80km/hr & she'll only make 18psi. But If I chuck it into 4th doing 80km/hr(full throttle) it will make 21psi. The more load the more boost you can run. When I have a car full of fat chicks she'll pump 28psi

most stockers need a little more fuel to make boost when free revving, I would expect 5-6psi for anything around the .63 exhaust housings when tuned nicely.
else either the cooler is too large or the exhaust housing on the turbo is on the larger side causing the delay. you mentioned it was stock so probably the latter.
unecessarily large cooler pipping or throttle body and even, base ignition timing can cause lazy throttle response.
However, If it redlines the boost will drop off quickly as the VL's use fuel cut to prevent over revving. naturally it will require a new calibration in the ECU to sort that one out.
