Ok after years of owning a 6 cylinder it's now time for me to step into a V8. I had my heart set on another VL. This time a 5L Calais, but after thinking about it as much as I love VLs I want something new. I've always liked VRs and VSs so I've narrowed it down to either a VR Clubsport, or VS SS. My budget will roughly be 10K (I need to sell both of the VLs first). The only thing is I'll be using either for a daily, but I don't drive that far. I only go to Tafe through the week which is only about a 10 minute drive, so I'm not concerned with fuel economy. What I would like to know is if any of you guys were going to use a VR, or VS for a daily which would you get? Also is 10K enough for a decent one? I saw a really nice blue VR Clubbie on carpoint for $11,800. A little out of my intended price range, but it gave a rough idea of what's out there. Any help would be appreciated. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

VR clubbys are so much nicer in my opinion than an vr / vs SS. so many ss's around that theyre not that special i dont think. But each to their own. I love that era with the clubby kit. Theyd be an awsome daily, wack some 18's /19's, a few gauges, maybe a 355 stroker kit on it an you got yourself a sweet ride!

I mean there are nice examples around, but overall I prefer the VR/VS shape. I've actually been looking around. Build 004 VS Clubsport for $9,900 OMG. http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/...s=55 &__Qpb=1 (http://www.carpoint.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=10774440&keywords=vs%20clubsport&__Ntk=CarAll&__Nne=15&__Dx=mode%20matchany&__No=15&__D=vs%20clubsport&silo=1011&seot=1&__sid=1279F5D843D7&__N=834%201216%201246%201247%201252%201282&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_Price_Decimal|1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&__Ntx=mode%20matchallpartial&Cr=0&__Ntt=vs%20clubsport&trecs=55&__Qpb=1) I was talking to my old man before and even he said you'd be stupid to buy an SS when Clubbies are around the same price rnark, so it looks like it'll be a Clubsport. Just a matter of finding one now. It wont be for a few months though. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

i too saw this light. having only owned 6cyl turbos i needed a change. i too started with the VLC 5L idea but realised that i wanted something alot newer. i had it down to 3 cars: VS clubby, WL caprice and a VZ calais and i couldnt choose one, each had their + and -. each had extractors and a sunroof, only the clubby was M5 which is what i wanted, i wanted at least a 5.7L, the calais had 170,000kms, caprice had 90,000kms and the clubby 114,000kms. so i decided the clubby was too old, caprice too big and calais too many kms and so i bought a VZ senator instead and got nothing that i wanted except for the 6L. but i love it, great car, deffenately the best ive had so far.

I agree the vt onwards dont have that appeal as to a vr vs vn calais, they fu cked up the shape with vts onwards,i prefer the older shapes for some reason never liked the vts when they came out, however i do like the new VE,s shape with the side flutes.go for a vs they have appeal and scrap the clubsport kit original looks better than spoilers.you can pick decent VS SS for around $6K these days.

Lol at vt-vz being the ugly shape.... Seriously a vr/vs clubby is worth no more then $8000 and that's for a good one. If you Wana blow 10k on a vr Cluby go for it but it must be a very special car to you. the vr is a very bland and boring car in and out in my opinion the vs range is nicer ---------- Post added 04-07-11 at 15:46 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by OUT2ANIL8 [View Post] I agree the vt onwards dont have that appeal as to a vr vs vn calais, they fu cked up the shape with vts onwards,i prefer the older shapes for some reason never liked the vts when they came out, however i do like the new VE,s shape with the side flutes.go for a vs they have appeal and scrap the clubsport kit original looks better than spoilers.you can pick decent VS SS for around $6K these days. Yeah hes going to buy a hsv and scrap the kit to look original. How does that work?

I'd go straight to the VS clubsport. You might even find a panther mica manual for around that price - they're so hot. The VS is a nicer car than the VR, plus they're slightly newer. Being a HSV the resale will be worth more than a Holden but you'll pay a fair bit to insure it too so remember to factor that in.

go for a vx ss you will reget getting a vr/vs your better off sticking with a vl calais 5ltr if your gunna get a vr .at least with the vl's they have the old school look when done up right . vr/vs are not even a nice shape .

IMO i wouldnt pay more than 6-7k for a decent VS SS with low km's if thats what your after.

i sold an immaculate low km hsv enhanced S2 vs calais for 6 grand a couple of years back . Factory panther mica , factory leather trim , factory sun roof , factory hsv brakes . 1 of the nicest cars I've ever owned . For 10 grand though I'd be trying to get something ls1 powered . You gotta spend some coin to get a 5 litre to make some decent grunt .

not so sure but i think the vs has airbags and abs as std. and some or all vrs didn't? as a daily i would think that this would be a deal maker. i'd want the better safety options. thought about a vr/s bt1? it has the ss interior and fe2 and god knows what else but as a daily it will look like a stocker v6 so that i think would be better for security. not just at tafe but shopping centres / work / mates houses etc. everywhere you leave a daily car. also you could have cash leftover and the best one out there for the 10k you are looking at spending.
