Hey Guys, I know this is my first post. I used to be around in the day when Guido and HSVSUX roamed the boards. I forgot my user name and password. Hahaha. Old age. Anyway I have a pair of axles that are said to be VL V8 axles. Both are the same length but have opposite side disc backing plates on each?? Pictured on the left. I have put then next to a pair of VN V6 axles 28 spline and then a pair of VL 6 axles. Can some one put me right?? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

They can't be a pair as they have to be different lengths. Have you counted the number of splines? 28 spline confirms that it's from either a VLT of V8, but if they're the same length then there's been some mismatching swappage going on. Can you measure them, from spline end to the back of the axle flange? There should a ~40mm difference in the overall length of a correctly matched pair when VL and VN are compared.

I think the foreground V8 axle is longer and the field of vision makes it appear the same length?

Yes the supposed V8 axles are 28 spline and the same length. The VN to VL axle is 20mm in length difference per axle. I'll just go get some measurements. I'll measure from the base of the wheel bearing. Just a bit easier. ---------- Post added 24-06-11 at 21:28 ---------- Quote: Originally Posted by Gab dH [View Post] I think the foreground V8 axle is longer and the field of vision makes it appear the same length? Sorry didn't thoroughly read the first post. As 5spdvl said Quote: They can't be a pair as they have to be different lengths.

The measurements are the Long side first then Short VL 6 25 Spline 711mm 617mm VN V6 28 Spline 730mm 635mm Supposed VL V8 657mm 656mm 28 Spline I took the measurements from the base/underside of the bearing. I was looking at putting the VN head with the VL V8 axles into a VL 6 housing.

The Borg Warner diff Housings are the same (VL 6 or 8 and on VN) The only difference is that the VL diff is shorter than the VN

What are the axles out of? Does any holden diff have the same length 28 spline axles? Does anyone have a pic of a pair of VLT?VL V8 axles?

The VLT/V8 axles will be the same length as the N/A axles. The VLT/V8 axles will be a lot fatter/thicker and have 28 splines as opposed to 25 on the N/A ones. VLT/V8 axles will have the numbers 950 and 951 cast in the end of them.

Yeah, BW78 housings are all the same in VLs (wagon/sedan, 25/28 spline). From VN-VS, they changed the length of the housing by +40mm. VL 6 25 Spline 711mm 617mm = 1328mm VN V6 28 Spline 730mm 635mm = 1365mm Difference = 37mm The only thing I can assume is you've got two VN-VS short axles, along as your measurements are pretty close.
