With tax time fast approaching, roller rockers, stall convertor, and a bump stick w/lifters and springs, is on the cards for the senator (stock 185i apart from an exhaust and k&n panel) cam wise nothing major looking at maybe a crow 4666 or 4619,
So your thoughts?

check out camtech's range. providing you have done exhaust, gearbox is upto the task. depends on what you want from it.

Now that I think about it i won't be getting rid of the bananas anytime soon so nothing over the top, some small lumpiness,(rather drive/ perform well instead of awesome angry lump that drives like a shlt box) don't wanna lose heaps on the bottom end and have steady power towards the top end, crane 284 sound like a goer... I shall check the camtech's out

I'd keep your tax money , save a little more and go a blower instead . I think vortech kits are going for $6500 . I think that would prove better bang for buck than a cam , springs and converter .

then your up for a gearbox after some spirited driving lol. you need 10k to get a blower setup and running good.

Is it a daily car? If not then get the biggest cam in your choice range, otherwise you dont want to be disappointed that you didnt go bigger cam.

It's a daily, but not that it matters it's still a toy. Larger cam not worthwhile on stock compression ratio and the bananas, flat tops to rectify to 9:0:1/ 9:5:1 and manifold then BAM more coin, pull the slugs out, it's a 304 so BAM, needs an overbore, with that all going on so new rods and crank etc, BAM I've gone and stroked it lol would love to but that's a big jump even just the flat tops, what combos has everyone else ran/had? I'm rather open to ideas, I want the senator to be fun

Rhys, come see me for an solid return if you don't already have an accountant,
here is the perfect cam to suit the holden EFI manifold: The Wade 1522C1536B
It has plenty of lift without over duration on the standard manifold.
Anything bigger you lose torque down low, and the banana manifold wont allow the higher airflow up top.
Get a transmission cooler and install it before/when you put the converter in.
Budget for a new auto too.
When i put the converter in my SS it didn't take long to fry the 3rd/4th clutch and drum

RB Gem is right though, the amount of money i spent putting the cam in my SS properly, i could have bought a second hand blower kit and had more than twice the power increase. With a blower you can use the money you would have spent on a converter to rebuild the box, and just use one of those standard/remanufactured stocky converters that are 2200rpm for about $200

also keep away from crow, have only once heard positive things about them

A 2nd hand vortech , sta or powerdyne , even a raptor or and old Ross top mount blower would be heaps better than a cam and chip package and without bumping up the comp , it will be disappointing . . . . You'll still be getting eaten at the lights by standard ls1's , rexies and even those Mazda mps things ( last one was very embarrassing ) . Let's face it , these cars are getting old , the boxes and diffs are gonna need a rebuild whether you modify them or not .

The humble old 304 ain't no LS1 is it? Was talking to mulkers the other day and he had a good theory for a 5.0L "start at the back and work your way forward" bang for buck wise so 3:7/9's maybe on the cards to keep me happy
And more coin saving sounds like a good plan of attack and blow the bitch
