this may have been covered already but is there any real solution to prevent the alt to charge properly with having gilmore drive,i have had this problem were no matter if im in idle or low revs the power seems to cut out and battery light appears or radar detector comes up as low voltage now ive been through the whole car with auto elec checked electrical with multi meter has a 120amp alt,new battery just bought the other day and yet it still comes up with low volts soon as im on the freeway or driving its fine soon as im stuck in traffic or idleing at lights low volts appears i dont want to take off the belt drive as i like the sound of it,will diff gears help goin for a lower ratio giving me more revs or is there something im missing any1 else having problems like this any help would be good, ive had gilmore drive on a few cars and havent had a real drama with this only this one so its quite strange on why its doin it?i even loosened the belt so u cant hear the noise to see if that might help being to tight around the pulley but still does the same thing i was hoping it wouldnt affect it or else id lose the purpose of the having the belt drive on in the first place which is the whine,if i keep doin what im doin will i stuff up the new battery as well as i havent charged it up yet but seems fine to start up,even though it comes up as low volts so im thinkin its starting to drain the battery already,im running a vs mild v8,i really want to sort this out cause its driving me mad thanks.

Holy paragraphs batman.. Have you changed the size of the pully on the front of the altenator? Compare it to stock. If the new one is larger it will spin slower, thus not getting the rotational speed required to make the alternator work.

front of the alternator yer it has the gilmore pulley they only come in one size i imagine and yer it is different from the standard one, so im guessing u cant buy differnt size pulleys for the gilmore drive?

You would have to be able to.. otherwise it would never work, unless your altenator is on its way out. You need a glimer pulley with the same outside diameter as the stock one, now just checking is all the pulleys the same size as stock or is the blancer size smaller etc etc?

alternator is new its a 120amp,there the same size pulleys just wider,im just replacing the stock belt system for the gilmore setup it all bolted up fine and all aligned right, only drama im having is that on idle i lose charge.

Either your rotational speed has changed (IE different pulley sizes) or the altenator isn't working correctly. See as you have had a elec sparky go over it, I would assume the wiring is correct with the source volts on the altenator etc Swap out the altenator with a stocky and see if it starts to work again.

First thing I would do is be testing that alternator. All things being equal an alternator belt is just an alternator belt.

Have you got the alternator wired up correctly? What car is it in? Can you bump up the idle at all? Also, diff gears arent going to do squat when the car's sitting idling.
