yeah thats alright then, the people that drive without a license are probably the ones that Im scared of having an accident with due to their no insurance and I really cbf claiming... so they should be off the road.

As of 1st of July if you get caught "HOONING" your vehicle will be impounded for 30 days as at the moment it's 48 hours. Second offence vehicle will be impounded for 3 months and third offence vehicle will be sold or crushed. They have also added to the "HOON" legislation something about unlicenced driving and repeat offenders. There was no mention about emmisions. Hope this clears it up for you.

Victoria's tough anti-hoon laws are about to get tougher with first offenders set to lose their car for 30 days -- up from 48 hours Victorian Transport Minister, Terry Mulder, has outlined new penalties for hoon drivers. The new laws will potentially see multiple offenders losing their cars permanently. The new regulations also categorise overloading as a hoon offence. The full list of hoon offences in Victoria consist of the following: extreme speeding; street racing; burnouts or spinning wheels; repeated driving while disqualified and overloading or overcrowding a car. According to Victoria Police statistics, the Greater Bendigo area has the highest concentration of hoons, followed by Geelong and Narre Warren, with Dandenong, Melton and Frankston competing for fourth place. From July 1 this year, first time hoon offenders will have their car seized and impounded for 30 days, instead of 48 hours, while repeat offenders will have their cars confiscated indefinitely. If a driver offends for a second time and is found doing more than 70km/h over the limit, their car will be confiscated. Repeat offenders will also face having their vehicle seized, crushed, stripped of parts or even handed over to the banks if still being financed under some circumstances. When the laws are enacted from July 1, a second hoon offence can be recorded up to six years after the first offence - previously a three year cooling off period. Another change to the hoon legislation will soon see offenders having to undergo compulsory driver education courses. The addition of 'overloading' to the list of the hoon behaviour punishable by law is a result of Victorian Premier Ted Baillieu's reaction to a recent incident that saw a learner driver pulled over with nine teens crammed into the car. "It's unbelievable in this day and age that someone could behave like that," Baillieu told a Melbourne newspaper. "In addition to delivering our commitments, we will be introducing new laws to ban overloading of cars. These new laws show that we are listening to the community and will deliver on our commitments to make our roads safer."

Hoon laws may be a little harsh, however I fully support them... But at the end of the day, don't drive like a twat and ensure you vehicle is in roadworthy condition and you won't have a problem...simple... let the comments start flying at me Dazz Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I can't see what upping the impound time is going to achieve... apart from appeasing some people who decide to vote politicians in because they see them to be acting on this huge threat. The only possible reason to increase the impound time from 2 days to 30 days is to extract more money for 'storage' fee's to the impound lot. It's almost laughable that someone who drink drives or drives whilst under the influence of drugs doesn't lose their car yet alcohol is represented in a high number of road deaths and accidents where 'hooning' isn't even reported on. It's that low that it's not even a factor that gets reported on! Hows this, only repeat drink drivers face losing their car! So what they're saying is that it's ok to do it once but just dont do it again but if you squeal your tyres then kiss the car goodbye, you're a danger to society!! Instead of focussing on the big issues to make a real change it's all about being popular and staying voted in.

Drive a car the wrong way up the highyway at night with no lights on at 30kph over the limit whilst being stoned off your head and you can drive home the next day but if you did a skid when you tookoff, NUP IMPOUND!

only reason they're doing this is to make more money, simple. How much do you gotta pay for their bs storage fees at the moment for the 48hrs/2 days? now times that by another 28, awesome money for something so simple... ---------- Post added 31-05-11 at 19:48 ---------- also LOL bad at your comment Born2xlr8, as on friday night me and my brother went for a drive around 12.30 am and as we were approaching the springvale intersection near coles the big traffic lights, a car was driving on the wrong side of the road was coming right at us slowly as we stood at the red light and drove around us went over the curb and straight into coles carpark.... worst part was there was a cop car down the road and they did nothing but as soon as they saw like 4-5 nice cars instantly went after them... they aren't concerned for "public safety" all they are there to do is make money, because if they were concerned for public safety they would leave most of the nice cars alone as they don't usually do anything wrong they just cruise up and down, they would go after the people that are really causing the road toll's such as drink drivers, drug driving etc.
