Hi Guys,
yes iv done a search but haven't found a good enough answer....
anyway im building an engine to support around 450hp atw's street driven and a few strip runs...
will a new turbo oil pump cope with this job?
also will the standard sump cope?
if not, what would you suggest?
looking for answers from people who have done it before, not people that think they know........not trying to be rude!
thanks for any help!

Yes, the turbo oil pump doesn't show signs of pressure drop or cavitation at 7000rpm making 510HP holding healthy oil pressure. The sump is large enough for street or Drag use. Circuit racing is another story.

I wouldn't use a pump that was built for a smaller engine, then have to modify it with a collar to make it fit, then pray nothing went wrong with my oiling system.
But its purely subjective, I don't like to add extra points of failure to an engine... especially in the oiling system.
Whichever sump you decide, ensure it has the same or better designed baffles to reduce slosh and assist directing the return oil to the oil pickup region.
On the street the stock sumps are more than adequate and some of the aftermarket ones I've seen are worse than OEM so be aware. RB Race Bred

N1 oil pump with a Eliminator High Energy pan/sump. Or a tweakit High volume pan/sump.

my engine seen tad over 500rwkw at 8500rpm. just got a new genuine vlt pump. engine seems to b holding up fine with no signs of any oil pressure issues, also just made the original sump a deep pan that holds about 9l. you will b supprises how much oil is taken from the sump and drowns the head during long and hi holding rpm. also fitted oil gallery restrictos in the block

17-05-11, 22:52 GMT+10#12 Genuine turbo pump is the way to go, however it is unlikely you will find a new one these days.
They have the wider gears but also the smaller flats that are driven from the rb30 crank. They are slightly different to the other RB pumps available, requiring crank sleeves etc and still seem to prone to failure.
You could also go wet external setup, this could work excellent if setup well.

l would only use a std pump from 400-600 rwhp max then go a wet sump for more hp, l used a new n1 lasted half a dyno session and broke they have to much pressure is why they brake. l went to a stage 6 dry sump even as a streeter bit of an over kill but, l had and have bigger plans for it which are happing as we speek

What are the trap doors for??

16-07-11, 16:29 GMT+10#17 To stop oil starvation around the pick up. The doors open from oil flow caused by accelerating, cornering, etc and the others are held closed by the flow of oil

17-07-11, 02:33 GMT+10#18 I use an ASR baffled and trap doored sump. Holds bout 8L. Cost bout $700.
And a Nitto oil pump. If I hadn't got a Nitto, I'd have gone for JUN or the standard VLT pump. There's a better gear set u can buy for the VLT pumps from memory aswel?
And as previously mentioned...stay clear of N1's, too much pressure.
They come off a motor that has extra things that need oil... piston oil squirters ,and twin turbos that use the extra pressure.

17-07-11, 17:17 GMT+10#19 i seen on jpc site that they sell n1 replacement billet gear set? duno if they will work in a vlt pump housing or not?
couldn't you get a n1 pump and change the reg spring to make it pump less pressure? or does it flow too much?
