Hey guys basicly i got a major defect even though there was only one thing the cops didnt like about the car, which was the ride height. The lowest point of the car would have most likely been the front pipe.
My question is how do VLT's go with road worthies? Mines pretty much stock setup besides the cooler, boost controller and aftermarket ECU.
I spoke to vicroads and they do not conduct any inspection when clearing a defect, they only require the RWC, is this correct? (the lady didnt seem too sure)
Anybody know any good mechanics around Berwick way? Planning on just putting standard springs in to pass the RWC, and reconnecting the Charcoal canister. Does anybody else have any suggestion on what to look out for?

when i got done in december, the vicroads guy came out and checked my car, checked the seat, handbrake and yeah...
even told me to get seatcovers

if u defect says u need a rwc u dont even have to take the car to vicroads, just give them the certificate

They check everything that's on the defect itself,
if they don't need to pop the bonnet they won't. They'll just roll the clearance wheel
thingy under the car and check height, if that's all it is. Generally they don't pick anything up
I had to change pod filter once so I did and then they made me go home again and bolt the
factory airbox in, because I just had it sitting there connected, as I was planning on changing
it back when I got home.
I once got told off by a Vicroads guy for having gauges on my bonnet,
although he couldn't and admitted that he couldn't do anything
as the cop hadn't written it on the defect.
Just depends who you get really...

I see but can't only Vic roads remove the sticker?

ive had 2 majors, once with a vlt in which i fixed everything had to get a roady, i took the car and they checked everything on the defect and then said your sweet to go, in which i drove home and put everything back on, then you get a stanley knife blade and scrape the sticker off yaself! next time was on a vt clubby, i fixed everything, got a roady and didnt even take the car and they didnt even ask me if the car was here and they cleared it, then again scrapped the sticker off myself!

Nah, you can do it if they mark it off as cleared.
But I'm pretty sure you still have to take it to Vicroads?
I've had to take my sticker off before, because the guy said he could never get them off.

30-04-11, 10:59 GMT+10#10 ive lost count of how many defects ive had, every single one of them (except the latest one) being major and RWC required, ive only once taken a car into vic roads to get it cleared, just went in with my rwc and defect notice and had it cleared, they have asked to see the car on a couple of occasions and i just said it was at home and they never worry about it....
i had one on my R33 a couple of weeks ago, major RWC not required so i was required to take it into vicroads for inspection, they only got me for handbrake, tyres, and pod filter/intercooler 1 to be removed, i slapped a sheet of aluminium over the pod and painted it matt black as i couldnt get an airbox anywhere, a couple of new tyres and adjusted the handbrake and took it in for inspection, the bitch at vicroads come out and stood at the front of my car and told me quote " im not interested in inspecting the car to be honest " and went back inside cleared the defect....i lol'd all the way home

30-04-11, 13:23 GMT+10#11 even if you get the rwc certificate, most of the time they will ask for the car to see if its been fixed, if you tell them you dont have it they wont clear it for you.
you just got to be lucky for them not ask where it is if you get what i mean, and yes you remove the defect sticker yourself (boiling water) that does the trick

30-04-11, 14:04 GMT+10#12 iv had a few defect notices, If they mark minor on the defect notice vic roads will inspect the car on what they have ponited out to you that doesnt past requirment.
If they mark major they dont want to see the car or inspect it, as far as i know & from my past experince. Even if they ask you if the cars there, all you say it has a defect notice on it & it can be driven

05-05-11, 09:46 GMT+10#16 i got done a while ago and refused to pop my bonnet to the cops. so they put on the defect needs complete inspection. but your car only needs to be looked at by vic roads when you get done for ride height.

i normally just peel it off and keep driving till rego is suspended (cops can't tell on their system). You will get a letter from vicroads stating when the rego is suspended.
I then organise my roadworthy. Go in a couple days after suspended and get it cleared.
When they ask is the car here i say "no, the rego is suspended i can't drive it. Its still at the mechanics"

05-05-11, 16:55 GMT+10#20 i was as they werent inspecting the vechile properly. such as testing the height of my car on uneven ground. (i was at a servo). but i then went to court for it and the judge laughed about it and gave me a 3 month good behaviour bond. its a massive fine if you get court for pulling the sticker off and keep driving the car around.
