G'day guys, bought my first VL calais a few weeks ago and have run into the age old problem of electric windows playing up First thing i did was clean the switches out with contact cleaner, sprayed them under the buttons and through the hole in the bottom of the switch themselves this made a good improvement but still wasn't 100% right windows were still playing up not going down/up etc. and did take a few presses off the button to get going. So i decided to hook up the switches using battery power but still using the factory switches, this gave a very good improvement and they became smoother and quicker in the process, First you will need to feed wire to each door, i used a 4 pin relay to feed power from the battery itself, and used power from the ignition as a source and used a 30amp inline fuse in between the battery and relay to keep it safe. Just split the power wire off into each door and have fun feeding them through the grommets! Then got a bosch relay 5 pin, think it was a single pin double throw or something like that Part number for that is Bosch: 0332 209 150 You can get these from bursons for around $10ish With this i used 2 per door, one for up and the other for down. These are a 5 pin relay, with pins 85,86,87,87a and 30 The pinouts are; 85 needs to be earthed i just put a hoop terminal and screwed it under one of the bolts in the door 86 needs can be either the up or down wire COMMING from the window switch 87 Feed 12v into this from the wire you wired in through the door 87A This is also an earth, i tapped it into the same wire 85 was joined to and it worked fine 30 This pinout goes to the regulator, doesnt matter which wire on the regulator/motor it goes into, if its the wrong way around (IE puts window up when you press down) just switch these wires between the two relays in the door and it will be fine Any questions let me know, will put good pics up tomorrow Cheers Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

the reason they arnt going up and down properly is probably because there is 2 much resistance from the tracks or the pulleys the wires are on, clean them up first and recon the motors as per the tech article first. this is why the switches stuff up, the motors draw more current because they are struggling to work and this heats up the contacts in the main switch causing the plastic pins inside the switch to melt = stuffed switch
