Hey there peeps, this is my first thread so please take it easy on me as i'm kinda "internet technology challenged"... I bought a VN Calais about 3 years ago for $1000, it went really well and the body was reasonably straight but the paint work was powdery and faded... The rear main seal started leakin so i decided to pull the engine and replace the seal and bottom end bearings while i was at it... Once the engine was out i thought i'd put a cam and aftermarket manifold on it, this led to goin a lil overboard... Here's a few pics and a list of what was done over the 3 years and $35,000 it took me to save and get the engine put together. Engine: Holden 5lt Stroked to 355ci. Engine Mods: Block crack tested, torque plate bored and honed 0.30, oil galleries and drain backs opened up and polished, Crank tunnel align bored and honed, Block decked to 0 deck height clearanced to fit stroker crank and grouted to height of core plugs, Scat 5.700 H-beam rods and o/size arp rod bolts, ARP head and main stud kits, lifter bores honed, Block and heads "o-ringed" copper head gaskets and stainless steel "o-rings" Forged flat top pistons, Total seal gapless rings, Come racing Solid cam and edge orifice lifters, Torque power hi-rise injection, manifold, MSD 1000cfm billet throttle body, MSD pro billet dizzy, Romac 360 balancer, ASR competition drag sump, Yellaterra Platinum shaft mounted roller rockers, Trend push rods, Heads: VN B-cast iron heads, CNC machined by Kostecki and flowed to 585hp, SBC 2.080in Manley stainless steel swirl polished int valves, K-motion springs, Titanium retainers and locks, Teflon valve stem seals, Manley 1.600in exh valves, Final port work and combustion chamber re-shaping was done by Leon at A-1 high performance, Heads were flowed to 620hp and intake valves flow 280cfm. Gearbox: Turbo 400, Heavy duty input shaft, Billet 5 clutch drum, Severe duty wild bunch sprag, Trans-brake and manual valve body, Built by Phil Jackman. Dominator 5500rpm converter. ---------- Post added 11-04-11 at 10:13 ---------- ---------- Post added 11-04-11 at 10:15 ---------- ---------- Post added 11-04-11 at 10:16 ---------- ---------- Post added 11-04-11 at 10:18 ---------- ---------- Post added 11-04-11 at 10:19 ---------- Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
