Ok thinking about doing a boot install, just wondering about the legalities.. What's ok, what's not and if it would pass roadworthy Cheers

I think you can basically do anything. Just no cutting holes & must have a sealed battery if in boot & ventilated. No exuding wires & so on.

If you're only talking about stereo, go NUTS.

Yeah it's a stereo, but with a bit of woodwork. So far I have a false floor, tool compartment and you can see the rest here, havn't touched the chassis so it should all be ok?

No issue, as long as you can still get to the spare wheel.

there's no law saying that you must carry a spare tyre... however there is a law saying, if you have a spare it must be roadworthy... stupid i know

Thanks heaps fellas, here it is at 90% completion, will get 1 more "face" piece of carpet to go across the sub and side panels to make it blend nicely.

19-03-11, 18:57 GMT+10#10 Nice work. Ill be doing mine shortly. How'd you go about mounting it all? My thoughts were to sikaflex some timber blocks to the boot floor, leave a corner of the carpet lose and screw though a ply wood sheet into the timber

19-03-11, 20:03 GMT+10#11 I (very loosly) cut out a base from ply, use mdf whatever, it was 1200mm wide and 800mm deep with some rough shapes of the wheel arches and bumps at the back of the boot. Under that I put pillow stuffing stuff so it sits nice and flat and wont bump. Then cut all the timber to the shape i wanted, and glued carpet to it. For the bottom I cut a 1m by 1.4m section of carpet which glues near where the boot sits and folds down underneath everything. Popped the sub in, the corner tool box and the two plates beside the sub, everything sits nice and snug without any screws... whatsoever...and with the leftover carpet i made a wheel cover to make it look abit neater.
Total materials used:
2x 1200x800 sheets of ply/mdf
2.6mx1m car carpet
1x bottle of pva i had lying around. Do not recommend this for joining carpet to timber, it's **** lol
If you want more/better info on building your own i'm happy to help, but it's been covered a million times before in other threads
And you're idea sounds good.. but you'd wanna make sure you had a few blocks to reduce flex in the timber or it could end up looking pretty weird lol
