Tasman bridge disaster - 1975 (Most of you, myself included probably weren't born in 1975 but I still remember seeing these photos... Somewhere) Well here's the story of the FB... Robin Tripp is, to use the Australian vernacular, a "legend" in Holden circles. One of our Australian members, Robin lives in Brisbane, capital of Queensland. A stalwart of the Holden UK Register, he has owned his FB wagon for over 30 years. The FB has taken Robin to many parts of the world. Indeed, the above left photo was taken in the U.K. when he brought the car over for his fifteen-country European tour during his long service leave holiday (long service leave - surely the greatest Australian invention ever) Robin has clocked up an amazing mileage on what he calls his "little drives in the countryside" down under, braving the wilds of the outback. A regular visitor to car shows many thousands of kilometres away, especially the FB/EK national meetings and Holden meets all over Australia during his holidays, he can clock up some 16,500 km on one of these round trips, reports of which have featured in "Holden Business". He even made it down to Holden's vehicle testing centre at Lang Lang in Victoria which was open as part of Holden's 50th. Anniversary celebrations in November 1998. All this in a car which was not very popular when new, but which has now become a firm favourite with Australian classic car enthusiasts. Oh, I forgot to tell you when Robin's long association with his FB started! He found it one day in 1975 hanging over the edge of the Tasman Bridge, after an accident involving a barge. As the previous owner wasn't keen on driving it again, Robin decided it was just what he was looking for! The car today... Taken in the UK... Taken in N.T... Story taken from HoldenUK.co.uk Just came across this, not sure on the whereabouts of the Monaro. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
