Hi guys just wondering if those who have experienced both could just provide me with the pros and cons of both. Thanks

Airbags are for posers, coilovers are for people who care about how the car handles

Are airbags really that bad? With coilovers dont you end up with a really stiff drive?

With coilovers you specify the damper and spring rates, so you determine the ride quality. For example my VL was setup like a track car and it road quite hard, but the Tein coilovers designed for street use in my wife's Lexus rides smoother than factory

Thanks for that NZ EVLHSV because I keep getting told no matter what type of coilover I go I will end up with a rough ride and no good for a daily drive. I am looking at getting the pedders coilovers, does anyone have any reviews on them? they any good?

Find out what spring rates they have. Their shocks should be matched to the springs so the spring rate will give you a good idea if they are aimed at street or race

Ok kool. I will give the guy a call and see what he says. I got my quote before for a drive in drive out package. Its $3803 for the following items Extream pedders coilovers $1950 Urethane alignment bush $223 Urethane swaybar d_bush $24 Lower control arm right handside $195 Lower control arm left handside $195 Urethane various bush $169 irs commodorre bush pck $147 Pedders engine mounth $95 Wheel alignment $110 Fittings for all the above $600 Does that all sound like a reasonable price or am I better off with a different brand? thanks

I don't know AU prices very well, but it sounds a little too much for Pedders stuff. I reckon you could get a custom Koni/King setup for that. Remember coilovers for VT are only the fronts, the rears are just shock and spring like you have now

Hrrm I am pretty certain the guy at pedders showed me the back ones are custom made. So I dont think its the same as what I currently have. Might have to check that out. In terms of that price I am not fussed as long as it good gear. But if I can get better for that price like koni etc I would much rather that.

If your worried about ride comfort do NOT get coil overs, my cars got 500lb spring setup and its not even that low compared to most lad style vls, an I can barely hit speed bumps with any speed at all cost the chassis is so stiff (love it but just wat u get when you have coils).... Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Thats exactly my point. I am getting conflicting feedback. Some people say its the same as normal and others say like your self its very hard and not good for a daily.

What makes your coilovers stiffer than standard suspension? Yes you guessed it, it's the damper and spring rate... nothing to do with the fact that they're coilovers... I've had coilovers in my last 4 daily drivers and in my weekender VL. My VL had 650lb springs in it and it was more race car than street car If you change your VL springs from 500lb to something like 350lb, re-valve your shocks to suit you will find it will be very smooth and comfortable Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

So basically if the dude wants coils but still wants em reasonably driveable for daily use then yeh he should get lower rate springs. cheers EVL good info Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Commodores are a coil over style shock really anyway.. for the front. All your looking to do is raise the spring base height if your trying to fit massive wheels. If your not looking to do that and want a budget alternative, get some Monroe gas shockers and applicable king springs in the spring rate you want and you will be laughing. If Pedders are talking about a rear coil over unit, basically they are moving the spring from under the car suspension arm to the top of the shock. in the wheel well. Here is a perl of wisdom.. don't fucking do it. You will tear the ass out of the car, the inner guard/boot area isnt designed to take the weight of the car in there, thats why only the shock bolts in there. Springs keep you off the ground, shocks keep you on it. I'm not sure who the genius was at Pedders that thought of that..

Generally when people talk coilovers for pre-VE Commodores it relates to the front only. The front is harder to get low with off the shelf parts than the rear anyway, so not worth converting to coilover rears IMO.

Yip that's a popular way to make the rears adjusable, but it's not considered "coilover" as in coil spring over shock absorber
