Been fighting a VL back to life over the last few months (bit of a labour of love....). It's a N/A RB30 88 VL with MF5 manual box and 3.45 diff. The car came with a reco box as the one installed had really noisy bearings so after months of putting up with the noises I decided to stick the box in last weekend and fitted a new speedo cable as the old one was stuffed - all good. Took the car for a test drive, and the speedo reads high - seems worse at high speed @ approx 100kph in the real world the speedo says I'm doing 120kph.... Thought it might be a calibration issue so I stuck a new (old) gauge cluster in - same drama. Tyre size is 235/40R17 (so pretty simaller to stock), Diff is 3.45 - Calibration of the speedo can't be the answer as I've tried two different gauge clusters with no joy.....Would really appreciate any thoughts or ideas as it's doing my head in. ---------- Post added 03-03-11 at 15:00 ---------- Forgot to say speedo was never working before this (due to cable being stuffed) and I used the original speedo sender/drive unit from the old box on the new box.

speedo would be reading 4.3% too fast just due to your wheel/tyre size choice/combo when it reads 100 you're really doing 95.7

Slightly late reply I know! Here's a pic of the speedo drive, which doesn't actually look in the best shape. Can new original items still be sourced?

Thanks very much for the replies, really appreciate it - sorry for my delayed reply, only just worked out how to subscribe! DR1FTER: Would definintely be interested - please let me know if yours is available. VLforced: By colour do you mean the actual colour of the drive gear itself? In this case being black? Some original photos have not been recovered yet.
