Where do you guys think the scene will be in 5 years time? Call me a little paranoid, but more expensive parts, less availability for that matter, less VLs being seen out and about as more people lean towards preservation rather than cruising duties.. Any thoughts? It's a little OT, you know how late Tuesday nights are.

VLs are fair clapped out ****ters... in all honesty. I however would love to own another mint one, but realistically its not going to happen as they are just too hard to find and to piece one together requires you to pay top dollar for what is essentially.. a sh1tter with hard to find parts. If you can buy a R33 GTR for under $25k why on earth would u piss on a VL turbo.

Only downfall is the original part's that be available or what you can find. Most people see VL's as thrashed out old car's tend to go for newer technology now day's hence not many on road also the amount in past years that have been stolen & written off i can name at least 8 or more VL Turbo vehicle's smashed or stolen in 8 year period in Brisbane alone.

Due to the current 'VL scene' prices have already gone up quite a bit even over the last 3-4 years. Those 'sh*tter' VL's that we all see around everyday, you all know the ones with faded paint, rust, dints and driven by a middle aged bloke with a Collingwood beanie, will completely disappear due to the price rise in parts. So like what's been said the only people who still have them will be the real VL enthusiasts, I'll never get rid of my two and I have plans to buy a few more when time, space and money allows. All in one, it's the first and the last of the real Commodores, a real modern classic.

Couldn't agree more. To be honest, i was absolutely set on buying something jap, but as soon as i went beyond the youtube for example, got my apprenticeship and started looking at the innovation that was the VL all that time ago i was gone. I still often wonder whether i will sell it for an import, or carry on with the VL. Mine is no pearler, but its always washed and cleaned, and reguarly service and for the history it had with previous owners it hasn't missed a beat. Long live the VL!!!

as above comment's say there gonna be more rare and not many genuine parts will be around. i mean i want a vl and im only 14 but by the time i grow up to fix one up the way i want it it's gonna be hard and cost a fortune. but thats why im gonna start work soon get a bit of cash than by one/ two vl calais' and one for spares so it will be genuine haha. good idea?

all you guys just to look at the US with there car scene, all there popular cars have an aftermarket full of stock parts and what not, genuine original will be hard to find but i think the aftermarket will be cranking the parts out so there are more aftermarket kit up ones.

i rekon the clapped out ones will go up in value and people will be restoring them and looking after them.. should go similar to the gts monaro's etc.. i know allot of farmers that use to drive their xy gt falcons and hq coupes to the tip, pull the battery out and catch a lift home, kinda similar with allot of the clapped out vl's so eventually i rekon it will turn like that

the rubbish ones that people own as dailys, **** car under 3k too simply move around will decrease. people will start too think that because they own an decentish og vl exce with 260 000km, it has too be worth money all in all, less crap vls around that you see often, and more decent ones you dont see.

Keep the body original and advanced/overhauled running gear. In 5years time I think it will be rare to find a VL that runs over 12 seconds. The way things are going and the upgrades constantly happening, sure they won't be as common but when there out, they're gonna be fast

The XR6 Turbo will help put a nail in the vl turbo coffin! Ive driven a few what a great car but in saying that the VL Turbo is a very unique car and will always remain in most eyes a classic even if holden had to turn to the japs for a motor to produce a winner!

^" even if Holden had to turn to the japs" people like you drain it.. Who cares! The VL Turbo will always turn heads, empty pockets, blow up, cause headaches & heartache, get stolen, written off.. But most of all will remain a tuff car, with enthuisiasts from young to old!!!

I just sold my original vl calais turbo s2......sold it for not much less than what i purchased it for 10 years ago....was happy with the $$$ i got for it.....(miss the car very much and its only been 1month with out it)....I dont think the scene in 5years will change much...Its funny though as me and few mates had this coversation late 2006 ......dont sell it dont sell it.....wait and see it will be worth heaps in 2010 ect ect ect....Our chats about cars are different now...At the end of the day if you own a car that you love and passionate about dont worry about what there worth in 10years 20years 30years 40years or what the "SCENES" going to be like ...thats mine and few other mates theory....stock up on parts and take good care of your vl and enjoy.. Thats all George P

Holden will never turn to the japs the VL Nissan deal was to get a decent fuel injected motor for the VL Commodore in 1986 as Unleaded petrol was introduced as the past Commodore 6 cyclinder motors were a failure.

Yes Holden did turn to the Japs for a decent motor, just like they turned to the Yanks for a decent V8, the Germans for gearboxes, and the Chinese for various components. Holden should have turned to the Japs for more because it seems the Japs are the only ones who know how to make decent reliable cars
