How can I tell if there dual voice coil? Can't seem to find it on their website.
And also im buying the premade item as you can see above?
Am I going to have to take the subs out and bridge them together or will they already be bridged?

*rookie warning* i know the basics of car audio.. installed my own system and what not.. but whats the story with ohms? if they amps running at 4 ohms and the subs needs 4 ohms each, arent you only running 2 ohms to each sub?

you can't run ohms? its resistance
v=ir so r=v/i
by sharing 4 ohms across 2 speakers each will take 4 ohms totalling 8 and and halving the wattage?
please correct me if i am wrong

OP, yeah man should work just fine, you might find some distortion at really high volumes, but as alpines are usually UNDERrated you should be a-ok

24-02-11, 17:40 GMT+10#10 A dual voice coil sub will have to sets of red and black plugs on it. And yes you are only running 2 ohms wen u bridge two 4 ohm subs but the less ohms the better, wen its at one ohm you are getting maxium performance.

24-02-11, 18:49 GMT+10#11 Now when you say bridge them do you just put take positive and negative from both subs and join them before the amp or do you just run the positive and negative from one sub to the other and then the amp ?

24-02-11, 18:51 GMT+10#12 According to the specs of the JL subs, your amplifier will see 2ohms.
In general if you have two subs 4ohm, depending if your wiring parallel or series configuration will see either 8ohms or 2ohms load at the amplifer.
If your amp is seeing 8ohms load, you can rule of thumb expect your power output to be half (500w@4ohm amp, will output 250w@8ohm) and in 2ohms configuration double the output of the amplifier (500w@4ohm amp, will output 1000w@2)
This is a very broad rule of thumb equation, but depends on amplifier and its design characteristics.
This particlur Alpine will provide 300wrms@4ohms or 500wrms@2ohms, so your subs will see approx 250wrms each.
Hope this helps

24-02-11, 19:03 GMT+10#14 either way doesnt matter you can join both at the amp or join one to the other then join one to the amp. Did you get the subs in the box same as the pic?

24-02-11, 19:16 GMT+10#16 Yeah same box as the pic its called a bass power wedge or something?
I went in and priced up this package today, I'm yet to pick it up though
Do you think they are the way to go?
This is the package i got quoted up today
Alpine head unit - Nothing special just iphone ready with sub out etc.
Alpine type R 6 1/2 splits for the front
Alpine type S 6" to replace factory ones in the rear
And I already have the amp ready to go.
Was stuck wondering on the subs for ages, but he said he would do them for $390 when they were in there for $560 so it twisted my arm.
Any thoughts on this system or advice on going a different way i'm open to.

24-02-11, 20:24 GMT+10#18 definatly sound deaded, this will give you the best results from your equipment.
there are a few differnt brands out there but essentially same purpose, dynamat although expensive is easy to work with and very good results can be acheived. If installing the speakers in the doors, dynamat the inner door skin. Also whilst at it seal the service holes with 3mm MDF before dynamat over the top. This creates an enclosure for your speakers and will give awsome results.

24-02-11, 20:24 GMT+10#19 Yeah they are all good products should try keep with the alpine theme tho coz the alpine r type dual voice coils r nuts i had a fifteen and it use to shake the sound shop were i had it dun. lol sound deadening would only b one thing is dynomat but its pretty experince and it didnt do to much for my fifteen or any loud systems. Ive seen people put it mostly around ur speakers to keep it in the car tho ment to bounce of it or something like that.

24-02-11, 23:18 GMT+10#20 In my VZ I run 1 PDX1.1000 with 2 type R 12 inch subs & one 1 PDX4.100 with 2 pair of SPR 17S splits. Great sound & bass.
Because your subs are 2 ohm & your amp is 4 ohm. Running the subs in series will increase the the load to 4ohm. Which will save you amp from over heating, if it was running parallel(2 ohm) it would be to much load.
