Hey guys got probs with getting vlt to run right. i took it to drags friday nite, had huge lean out and melted all 6 plugs, i threw some new cooler plugs in hoping it would all be ok, no such luck. Still runs the same, idle is ruff as if a plug is still farked. Also have a bad squeak coming from motor i think, doesnt seem to be turbo sound. Now question i have is what damage would i have done? hole in a valve, melted piston? Going to get compression test done and see if thats the case. ive taken rocker cover off and had a look at cam, lobes seem to be all in tact. any help or ideas would be great thanks. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

Ouch does not look good!! Looks to have run super lean to melt them like that. I can only hope you have no piston damage. compression or leak down test ASAP and see what happens. Do you know why it has run so lean? fuel pump or vaccum leak???

mike only ran it for short time,30 secs so it wouldnt show any damage on new plugs. id say the squeak is from part of earth strap down bore!!!eek at worst id say ive melted 1 or more pistons! Matt, i think it was cause by number of things that night, after first run, Ben thought it was running to rich so he adjusted the fuel reg, did 2nd run had same prob but worse, Ben thought it was vaccum leak, so we took manifold off and resealed it, and found back plug was loose, went out for 3rd run was the big bang, went so hard off the line and pulled hard, seemed to be running sweet, but half track she went ruff and the rest is history!

yeah il say its put a hole through one or mare valves, hopfuly its not a piston, but it could be,couls of damaged the pistons.the ends of the plugs have to go somewhere,............throught he motor them through the turbo etc etc,

Sounds like you might need to bring down a trailer to pick this engine up lol

sorry to hear that man. possibly may have melted the top of the pistons putting the piston out of shape and making the rings not seal

Stock ECU etc isnt it? hey man, yea stock ecu. i put a rising rate fuel pressure reg, 1:1 ratio.had it set up right before went down there, my own fault for not getting it tuned properly but oh well live and learn. Mate who came down to drags with me is a spanner thrower and had a play with it as he said while going down strip it was blowing black smoke. So he adjusted it.id say hes mis judged it or other factors played a part.its done now so meh. time to build up a stronger motor and get it tuned.
