does anyone know what the max offset a vl can handle? car in question is only at ~ FE2 height, so not low, and if lowered it will be done proffessionally. wheels i am looking at are getting close to too wide, 17x8.5. the guards have been rolled only for the lip, they havent been rolled out or cut and widened (though that is a possibility). currently have 17x8s wearing 235 40's with no problem whatsoever, 45's could fit easily, however i am worried about the rims i am looking at because of the extra 1/2 inch and that most of the 1/2 inch and possibly a little more is sitcking out. i know some people are running massive dish at the rears but that is normally on a shortened diff and it is not so much the rears i am worried about. any way, about how much protrusion can be fitted under a vl? i am fairly confident the 8.5s could fit on the rear, however i am tossing up and risking getting 9.5 rears and seeing if i can fit them with slightly stretched rear tyres (235s). the 9.5s have a little bit more offset too. i realise this might be an odd question for a vl, or indeed any commodore forum, as most people just want to put 20's on and slam them, nothing about offsets. however there is a set of wheels that look good (thanks genki) that i am considering getting (no asian stance/jdm/165s on 7" rims kind of stuff) some wheels that fill the guards a little bit more.

With 17x8.5 an offset of 38p is perfect (225/45R17 fronts and 235/45R17 rears). You can get away with anything from 35p-42p but 35p will most likely require 225s all round. You will be fine with 8.5s up front with coilovers With a 17x9.5 rear you'll need an offset of around 50p and a 255/40R17. You should be ok with minor guard work
