hey guys a few weeks ago i bought my 1st VLCT, i bought it knowing that the turbo was rooted in it, it was making a horrible grinding noise and the car wouldnt boost, if you tried white smoke just pissed out of the exhaust real bad.
so i pulled it off and got it rebuilt/hi flowed and put it all back together hoping this would fix my problem, but it hasnt, the car still pisses out with white smoke, and theres no boost, it just lags everywhere and my boost gauge goes from VAC 10 to 0... ive checked for any vacume leaks and made sure all the cooler pipes were tight,
now i done a search on here aswell about the misty smoke coming out of my rocker cover and found out that thats blow by and most high km engines have it, but could also be a cracked ring, could this have something to do with why the car wont make any boost?
thanks in advance for any help im still learning about these cars im used to playing with v8's :P

maybe the head gasket is fu<ked or u have a cracked head ? do a comp test

Who rebuilt it? Even if the motor was on its death bed, it would most likely still make some boost...the fact it gets to 0" Vac then stops is a worry as that what a dead turbo does...so who rebuilt it?

thanks mate ill do a compression test and see how that goes...turbologic in port kembla, NSW south coast, theyre pretty well known and alot of people reccomended them

it should be on like 20-21 vac, its it only 10 on idle you prob have a leak in the intake somewhere. A huge boost leak will cause your symptoms.

its ALWAYS the last place you look

ok thanks guys, we had a look for vac leaks but couldnt hear anything, but i spose ya never know maybe i just cant hear it, i dont think its a headgasket, it doesnt overheat and theres no oil in the coolent, last time i done a head gasket on an old N/A vl i used to own i definitely knew about it! lol,
it might be possible that a cooler hose is split but its closed up untill it starts trying to boost and it opens up, or maybe there might even be a crack in the cooler itself? i might make up a pipe to bypass the cooler and see it it will boost then, if it does then at least ill know it something to do with that...
another thing it has a blow off valve on the cooler piping and it seems to wobble a little bit are they supposed to be tight and rigid? i took the hose off it anyway and plugged it up, both with or without it made no difference but boost could be escaping from where it attaches? all random theories of mine but as its the first turbo car ive ever owned i could be completely wrong..
thanks for your help guys

The BOV should be tight. Um just going back to that 10vac. That is the amount of vacuum or suction in your intake pipe, but it should be at least 20 on idle with the throttle closed. As you open the throttle the vacuum goes up to close to zero. 10 vac indicates air is leaking INTO the intake manifold from somewhere.

09-02-11, 15:56 GMT+10#11 No lol i mean basically on idle you've possibly got air leaking in somewhere, and leaking out of the same spot on boost. Its a possibility.
I would be looking at the rubber hoses around the intake manifold, it would have to be a fair leak. Just follow your pipes from the turbo outlet all the way along and tighten everything. Are you sure you boost gauge is accurate and reading 10 vac?

This is because as soon as you find it, you stop looking.
