Hey guys, come tax time this year i'm planning on doing a complete overhaul of the suspension in my calais. with the intent of aiming for a street build, but also with the option of raising the front for drags, and generally hunkering down for track work.
basically just seeking contact with those who have made a vl handle, or atleast come close, i have no illusions of evo spec handling lol, but i want to improve the boatishness.
so far i have got a whole heap of good information from having a quick chat to NZ EVLHSV but i would like further information and other peoples experiences.
tbh i dont actually know of anyone but NZ EVLHSV who has done a suspension setup like i need information for.

Talk to NZ VLCT (http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/member.php?u=7383), he's got the craziest suspension setup for a VL in his calais race car, did most (if not all) of it himself so he should be able to give you some good advice. or 88chaser (http://www.calaisturbo.com.au/member.php?u=12382), his suspension setup is pretty wild too . both those guys may not have their cars setup for what you're after, as they're both circuit cars, but they im sure they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

Coilovers
New bushes
Sway bars front and rear
Adjustable Panhard Rod
Strut bar
Im sure if you get all of that you will be extremely happy with the handling.

Yeah man 88Chaser is the only one I know of that's doing serious suspension work at the moment. You know the setup I had already, so not a lot more I can say

It's not really that simple. Get any part of that wrong and your car will handle like crap

pms sent to both the afformentioned people, thanks guys.
out of curisiosity who makes better coilovers? koni or tein? koni have the better reputation do they not?

Tein are pretty big in Japan, I have koni's in the rear of mine, the suspension man swears by them. All it really is that is different is the shocker

I have Teins in my wife's Lexus and they've been really good. I doubt they'll make anything to suit VL though?
I've had Koni coilovers in 3 cars and have always been very happy with them. Just remember they can differ depending on who builds them and what spring rates you use
I've got Bilsteins in my current daily and have been through 2 rebuilds and revalves so far. I'd never buy them again

What I meant is if you get the spring rate, or size of sway bar wrong etc the car won't handle well
There are a few good brands out there but I personally have had good experiences with Koni shocks, King springs, SuperPro bushes, and Signature bars. If I was doing a VL again they would be the brands I'd use. But as with everything if you want it to turn out good you have to make sure the person assembling the components knows what they're doing

For anyone interested this was my setup
Custom made Koni competition adjustable platform front coilovers (adjustable height and adjustable damper). Koni competition rear shocks (adjustable damper). Modified lower shock mount. King Pro-Sport Competition 650lb front springs, King Superlow rear springs (cut). Pedders front strut brace, Pedders adjustable panhard rod, Signature 30mm adjustable front anti-roll bar, stock rear anti-roll bar, Super Pro polyurethane 90 bushes throughout
Cost - $4,000
The only thing I would do different next time would be King competition rear springs on adjustable seats
