Hey Really annoyed, just wondering if someone can help I removed the standard struts that were in the car and replaced them with another set of standard struts with after market springs, was just easier couldn't be fkd remving springs etc Anyways, I'm having trouble with the nut that holds in the hub assembley, so the disc and bearings etc I tried using the nut off the struts I took out of the car but it doesn't seem to go on? Goes in half a turn then gets tight Thread on the axle looks to be okay, doesn't appear to be damaged. I tried cleaning it as well but still nothing. Don't want to force it on and wreck the thread.. Went to the wreckers and got 2 nuts off another VL and tried that, stil nothing but the nuts fit fine on the struts I removed out of the car? Don't know whats going on, can't check the thread because I don't have a pitch gauge either, not sure what to do? Did VL struts have different size hub nuts? Like earlier models and late models or turbo and non turbo? Any help would be appreciated Thanks ---------- Post added 30-01-11 at 13:39 ---------- Taking about the nut in the middle, its held in with a split pin ---------- Post added 30-01-11 at 13:40 ---------- Hub slides onto these things which are attached to the strut, the nuts screws onto the thread at the end

Are you sure the stub axles you're trying to do the castle nut up on aren't bent? Get a shifter or big socket and have a few swings on it... It might come good... Failing that... Maybe try track down some brand new nuts.

They don't look bent at all man, the nut only goes on half a turn if that. I don't think it's good that I force it on because that might wreck the thread on the axles? Then I'll be really fkd..

seems to me the solution is to remove springs from new struts and put them in your old struts... I am dealing with a front wheel bearing that overheated and welded itself to the stub axle. no way in hell the disc is ever coming off now. Means new strut, brakes, & bearings time might as well do the vt brake conversion while i've got to replace it all anyway. Some original photos have not been recovered yet.

I would just try using some force you have nothing to lose. If you don't youl have to change the strut anyway, and if you do you will either get it on or **** it and have to change the strut. Are you just using your hands or does it feel tight with a wrench on it?

Well what happen was I borrowed a pitch gauge and checked the thread and it was the same on both sub axles on both struts so I got over it and just tightened it up with a ratchet It went on half a turn by hand then few turns on the ratchet and it went on nice and free. Thread at the end must be a bit dodge or the end of it's bent, either way it's all on now and running Thanks to everyone for their help
