Okay, let me just start by saying, I have absolutely no idea about car air conditioning systems... BUT, what I would like to do is.... get air con in my VL, because it lacks it. One of the main things I would like to do though, is not use the VLs air-con and heater switches. Would it be possible to have electronic switches put in place? Maybe use switches from a newer model Commodore instead of the VLs cable linked switch? The main point of doing this is because I can move the switches elsewhere on my dash.

yes you can very simply use couple relays and separate switches to turn the compressor on and the fan on, any auto elec can do this for you

sweet, I wouldnt mind just getting something like this put elsewhere http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VW-VOLKSWAGEN...item335746eedb (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/VW-VOLKSWAGEN-GOLF-MK4-HEATER-SWITCH-UNIT-1J0-819-045-C-/220507598555?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item335746eedb)

problem is that even if you put other switches in etc to control the fan and compressor you're still going to need the factory unit to control the vents which work with vacuum hoses. I'd stick to the factory setup if I were you... but each to their own.
